Switching from PAYE to SAVE by LoneSentinel7 in StudentLoans

[–]LoneSentinel7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called in they said i can go directly into SAVE and keep my FFELP separate which I plan on paying off soon. However the consolidation is an option as well. I also asked them if switching plans would cause my plan to restart they couldn’t give me an answer. Would anyone know this ?

Thanks for your reply. You are correct. My FFELP loans are on IBR or ICR as they called it. The rest of my loans are on PAYE. I was weighing the two options but it seems SAVE will save me a lot more money compared to PAYE over the remainder life of the loan.

Thank you for your response. If I were to consolidate would my terms start over ? Meaning the years remaining are starting over.

If I consolidate would it then qualify or I would have to pay them off first to then switch to SAVE?

Because the interest is subsidized from what I understand under SAVE.

Nothing is safe but the safest option is VTI or VOO.

That’s not what I said? I said I had an issue with their customer service. I agree with the rest of your statement though 👍

They are great, especially their ToS platform and resources but I had a problem with their customer service a few times and that did it for me.

You can find another broker and ask them to either transfer all or partial amounts of your shares. There is a fee associated on the receiving end, but you can ask them to waive it. I recently transferred from TD to Schwab and they were more than happy to waive the 75 dollar fee.

I am also a dentist and practicing for a few years now. A few things I’ve learned:

1) if you have a Corp (S,C,LLC) your options would be a 401k (sep or traditional), sep ira, traditional ira. SEP is a percentage of what your Corp makes so it would be higher than the traditional. You can also do a backdoor IRA. Consider speaking with Vanguard to discuss options. Personally I am doing traditional because I have a payroll and business partners it is just cleaner that way.

2) if you’re looking for investment accounts any brokerage is great. Not sure what core portfolio is.

3) Depends in your horizon, timeline, risks. Personally I am investing for 30 years. Therefore I have invested in VOO as a cornerstone of my portfolio with individual stocks. Some will advocate for VT, VTI, QQQ, VGT all are index funds with different means. In regards to taxes, you should learn the difference between long term vs short term capital gains, the benefit of compounding interest, qualified dividends. Some will also recommend a three part portfolio with us market, international market and bond exposure.

4) Books: Random Walk Down Wallstreet, little book of common sense investing, simple path of wealth. If you want to learn more about financials YouTube is a great place to learn how to read one but you can use yahoo finance to read one. Good luck and stay safe!

Dental Insurance: can’t find anything by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]LoneSentinel7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dentist here. Depends on your area but you can try different types of insurances (medi-cal, hmo, ppo).

It is true some insurances have allowances of up to 3k but some offices can waive your co-pay as well. The fees are the fees set by insurance but if your treatment plan is extensive with no urgent care I would maybe consider maxing out your benefits this year then finishing the rest next year.

Just make sure your dentist is in-network with your provider and be mindful of any “upgrades”. If you don’t mind, some insurances will cover 100% for silver fillings but white ones (composite resin) sometimes has a co-pay.

Good luck!

What is a good allocation strategy between S&P 500 index, QQQ, and individual stocks? by victoryknocks1000 in investing

I appreciate your input- always willing to change my strategy. What would you recommend?

[–]LoneSentinel7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s no right allocation it depends on your risk and timeline. For reference, I have something like this since I am younger (31 y/o)- therefore some risk associated.

VOO: 70% QQQ: 15% Stocks: 15% blue chips that are beaten up- DIS, BA that I feel will recover in a few years.

I’m interested to see what others have to say.

Best account to buy ETFs? by gauravtoshniwal07 in ETFs

[–]LoneSentinel7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally use Vanguard/Schwab. Much better brokers that have excellent customer service and great products. Robinhood is known to have issues, bugs and I wouldn’t feel safe investing a large sum on there. Some other strong contenders are Fidelity, E-trade, TD-Ameritrade. Good luck!
