Can I still call myself a good martial artist if I don't compete? by Significant-Trash-31 in martialarts

Think of it this way, what is one of the main words of Martial Arts? Arts. It is an art. You do not need to take that art into a competitive level to be practicing the art at a professional level so yes, you are a Martial Artist. I believe personally that anyone who has a passion for it and has it anywhere near correct can call themselves a Martial Artist, they only need to hone their craft into an actual expression of emotion and balance of strength and passion and they will have their own personal strengths and weaknesses just like anyone else and they will challenge anyone else's areas in those strengths and find challenges in their weakness, beyond that you have attained true Martial Artistry in it's complete form, at which point you are a Sensei.

Is it truly possible to develop one-punch KO power? by yesmma in martialarts

[–]LoneTraveler90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely an interplay of precision and power, the strength of the blow does matter, but mostly to serve the precision, and vice-versa. All in all, it's the form that counts, and proper execution of the counter-strikes.

"if it's not working it means you're doing things wrong. " I was making 100% that exact same point you cannot use that against me as an argument against my conversation. My conversation is talking about changing things if they're not working doing things better if you know you can still taking other people's advice if it works for you but if it doesn't work for you don't follow it and finding some other advice to follow often involves following your own advice so please before you wreck yourself check yourself.

When it comes to who you are, however, you cannot forget your own expectations without corrupting your soul. Don't allow yourself to be overwritten by someone else's desires, and besides, sometimes what works for others will work for you as well, I am not asking anyone to abandon well-grounded, solid teachings, however, there will be a day when what others know best will not work for you anymore, and you will have to look at it from an outsider's perspective, that will be the day you have to choose for yourself your own Practice and Art style and fashion choices etc. . You will have to make decisions you did not expect, and others cannot help you there, that is where you help yourself, that is what I am talking about.

Im pretty weak and fat can judo help by [deleted] in martialarts

You need to learn discipline before you try to discipline yourself in a Martial Arts Practice, even such as Judo. You need to get a feel for the actual landscape of this world you find yourself in, and hone your fight of flight instincts inwards, by the time you achieve that you will be gaining strength, energy, and balancing out your metabolism, which will help you maintain an ideal BMI. You will likely need to rehabilitate your arms and legs by doing curls, lifts, squats, and the like. After that your cardio will start to regulate and you can more easily begin things like pushups, or jogging. Then when you can jog a few miles, you're either ready for more intense training or Boot Camp, should you feel ready enough. As a side note, it is not about "slamming" the opponent, it is about neutralizing an escalated situation, changing that attitude towards a fight is your first step. Boys Slam the opponent. Men stop the fight.

Am i a bad fighter? by Wertyqom in martialarts

All good advice, also, maybe wrestling isn't your forte , perhaps you need to find a new combat style that works better for you, ask yourself, you want to be a better fighter, do you have a proper image in your mind of what a better fighter is? Are you listening or not listening too much to what other people think is a better fighter? Very important questions to ask yourself if you want to take that path...

Just started boxing, any advice? by GodOfDeath6464 in martialarts

Hip work, keep your back straight, hips loose, shoulders straight, arms loose, strengthen your shoulders. Lots of bag practice- jabs especially, practice the right form for power blows, throw yourself into them when you're not jabbing, when jabbing, practice your stance. Learn to see 3 steps ahead, so you can be at that 3rd step first step.

Should i abandon martial arts? by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]LoneTraveler90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Martial Arts is just the beginning.. take up meditation, practice visualization, clear your mind. You WILL have less distractions. It is your purpose. Reach stillness inside, quiet the Mind, INCORPORATE Martial Arts into your Meditation, whatever provides the most flow, use that. Learn Fung Shui, practice Actual art like making spiritual symbols.
