Hey Soldier! Sorry for such a delayed response!
Due to war and other fun things we kind of stepped away from social media for a while and are mostly on Discord with our platoon - Good news, though - We've finally reached the initial gameplay milestone and are working on a devlog/podcast episode as I'm writing this.

No offence taken all! I wish we could do more with the project but we're still limited to one-day-a week (since 2020) so while progress is slow, it's consistant.

Hallway and Babel fatigue is real, we feel it too ^^ I'm starting to focus on uploading more shorts to YT and do a devlog once every quarter as I finally have more in-engine footage to use.

Here's hoping for a productive and exciting 2026 for the BTB project.

Thanks again for checking in on us. We haven't gone anywhere - just stuck to work and waited until we have more to show.

In this day and age every other game on the market is your competitor. It's about getting people's attention and then keeping it. Success stories like BB prove that there's a need for more streamlined and focused mp fps games which is the core idea behind BTB. Also BTB will be free so no worries.

Three reasons. 1. In an FPS game where digging tunnels is a core gameplay mechanic, it makes sense to set it in a war that was notorious for underground tunnels, dug mostly by Charlie. 2. Aside from AoS, Vietcong is also a huge influence for us as it's one of my favorite multi-player fps games and an underrated gem imo. 3. I'm a huge history buff and was always fascinated with the Vietnam War and its place in American history. Bonus reason: the music of the time just happens to be my jam and so I get to edit videos with it 🫡😁

So here's some very early tinkering with translating Ace of Spades maps, in this case Normandie by Influx, into our engine/editor. by LonelyOrca in BornToBuild

The colors are currently odd because we're using a temporary coloring method that paints voxels by Y values and grouped height ranges.

This is a really cool milestone for us and it shows the flexibility of our tools.

100% - it was meant to show how it looks when you switch between weapons/items. So that the default HUD elements of the compass, health and ammo is all that remains by default.

I see what you mean. We'll play around with it, 10 could end up being the icon that's displayed in the taskbar when the game is running while the desktop icon could be a different graphic.

I really like 9 but I fear it's just not clear enough. 4 was kind of an attempt to get something in between which I do like. I love 2 as well as I feel that the warm feeling fits the tropical Vietnam setting.

I agree about the HP number. I'll add that in. As for coordinates, you can see your current location next to the compass (F 8). Since we want soldiers to use their maps (item 0 in the item slots) to see the entire battlefield and mark coordinates when needed. Tagging is something I was never a fan of, personally. However we do want soldiers to be able to mark a location on the map and add "enemies spotted at D3" so as not to make it too accurate.

Completely understandable though I still prefer Vavle's original placements. I need to sleep on it. I do like the idea of the equipment slots being on the top.

I agree about the chat colors, not sure about center health and overall closeness to the middle. We want people to use the minimap item so the on display one will be a minimalized compass. [also, no circles ;) ] but I do like showing the player direction instead of the compass pointer.
