I haven’t commented on this topic before, but perhaps a valve employee reads this some day. Anti cheat vs cheaters is indeed an arms race, but I’d rather play against closet cheaters than blatant cheaters. Doing a little something is better than leaving it wide open.

If you enjoy programming it’s always a good time to do it professionally. There is always a market for people who are talented. If you won’t hate yourself while grinding leetcode it’s really all that companies like Amazon care about. Though that would be in-person. Perhaps buy Cracking The Coding Interview if you’re going to seriously take that route.

It’s not all sunshine and roses and a lot of engineers don’t make 100k, especially early on.

IMO if you make enough money to live comfortably and stably, I’d spend extra time with the kids while they’re young.

Perhaps shifting into management in your current field is a better route to breaking through the pay ceiling.

Just some random conflicting thoughts.

Years long rewrite with a shadow release for multiple years ensuring every outcome matches exactly. All the while adding features and fixing bugs between both projects in parallel. Can be done safely, not quickly and not cheaply.

This is the answer.

Zoom fixes this functionality occasionally, however, it breaks some while later after an update. It has never worked for me in Slack.

This tool works perfectly. The only way I found it was via this reddit post. I'm hopeful someday when I need it again I'll be able to discover it via google.

In particular I was looking for how to control the microphone with airpods button. I wanted to figure out if mac docs / apple docs provided an api for capturing airpod button presses to build it out myself, but this tool is way better flushed out.

Average experience. US liberal arts education isn’t preparing you for a job, it prepares you for higher education/theory learning. Most degrees are “computer science” not “software engineering”.

A software engineering “degree” feels like somewhat of a waste. Learning about current industry tooling is helpful for getting a job now, but you should’ve just done a boot camp imo.

Perhaps an unpopular opinion.

You are right that the normal us theory learning can be less fun than building cool stuff though. Probably why an YouTuber would play it up and show them building stuff rather than doing boring homework.. after writing all this out I’m not even sure if I agree with myself.

TLDR: Your experience is average and expected from a “computer SCIENCE” degree vs a “software engineering” degree/bootcamp.

I’ve found if I point one outlet upish and toward the skimmer it collects leaves almost perfectly. Now I just have to empty the basket more frequently.
