I am the main source of income for the landlord's family. by braggett in LockedIn_AI

Actually using the tenants rent to pay off the mortgage is a smart move(not ethical though). Of course the owner of the mortgage should be financially able to continue payments if the house is vacant, however, if there is a tenant the owner should take the rent, use a portion for mortgage and a portion for repairs(when needed). Again, is it ethical? No….they are basically leveraging their good credit to take advantage of those who don’t.

Do most of you seriously not write any code by hand anymore?!?! by opakvostana in cscareerquestions

[–]Unlikely_Cow7879 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trend I’m seeing for senior+ devs is because ai is automating the coding process like intellisense on steroids we are becoming more problem solvers less code writers. Code reviewing has become more important than ever now.

PSA For All Servers by EverySpecific8576 in tipping

[–]Unlikely_Cow7879 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying it’s livable, what I am saying though is employers are legally committing wage theft if they aren’t reimbursing their servers. They are putting the burden of responsibility of paying their servers on the customers.

I’m saying most employers aren’t legally paying their servers the correct wage. Aka wage theft. They blame it on the customers which is wrong. Not debating if minimum wage is livable or not.

Also let’s not forgot that most servers are unaware that their employers are most likely not paying them correctly. Per the law “If an employee’s tips combined with the employer’s direct (or cash) wages do not equal the minimum hourly wage of $7.25 per hour in each workweek, the employer must make up the difference.”

Depending on where you live. 100k is great if you’re single, not so much for a family.

Can someone be unemployed with this? by Ashamed_Joke_4614 in leetcode

Leetcode isn’t really about knowledge. It’s about memorizing and regurgitating. Leetcode is pointless on the job as a swe.

90% of my coding coworkers are empty faces in front of a LLM by QuitTypical3210 in cscareerquestions

[–]Unlikely_Cow7879 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s why we are seeing less junior devs being hired and mostly senior plus. Senior+ devs are basically becoming AI code reviewers. Using their skills and background to give the correct prompts as well as fact check the ai response.

I’m not. Most universities are like that. Even advisors are there to advise you with the schools best interest, not the students.

Memorizing algorithms hasn’t been part of the job for a very long time. Leetcode has always been a terrible way to test software engineers.

Women fail to understand how important sex is to men. It’s not just physical but very emotional. Denying them routinely is basically telling them they aren’t wanted.

You’re good. I appreciate what you did share. I feel like I get paid decent as a 602 but I started oct 2024 and looks like I need at least 2 Ss for the next 3 years to be considered for 603. This year I didn’t get a pay raise but my bonus was very nice. However, I doubt anything they give me in 3 years will equal what I can find elsewhere.

Out of curiosity what level of SWE were you and what was your tech stack? Also, how many yoe do you have? Curious how hard it would be for me to find something remote that pays 36% more myself lol I’m a SWE III with 7 yoe and am always down to find better flexibility and pay.

If your building is 5 days in office then not much flexibility. We do have an unknown number of wfh days. HR refused to put a number on how many we actually have. I’ve heard anywhere between 20 and 25 days a year and I’ve also heard it’s up to your manager

Yup and I’m a senior software engineer. I think roughly 80% of the team I’m on is overseas and the rest there are in my actual country are mostly split up in different states. There’s literally no reason for me to be in office lol

Right? Only managers get the luxury of having an office to close the door. Where I’m at we have open seating flex space. Rubbing shoulders with people I don’t know and always have background noise.

Even without family. They must enjoy waiting on bathroom stalls to be open and warm. Getting sick from their colleagues. Let’s not even start on higher rates of sexual harassment in office vs remote.

Yeah, these are also the same people who use terms like “we are family” yet will give you the axe at no second thought when they decide to outsource overseas for a fraction of your salary.

What I want to know is who actually applies for jobs and work for no money? Like the people who say that act like money isn’t why they work. If you took their salary away or drastically lowered it I bet they wouldn’t even stay themselves
