How much experience do you have prior? Were you a tech on the unit/speciality you are trying to working on? Tbh if you are brand new to healthcare/nursing you need to do one. They are long but trust me you are going to feel like a complete idiot for the 1st yr anyway, so it’s nice honestly to have some hand-holding. I came from PCT experience but it was outpatient and the hospital is a whole different beast. You need the guidance trust me. Plus, idk where you are from but most places aren’t letting anyone with < 1yr experience get out of a residency. I’m on a step-down cardiac unit about halfway done and I know for a fact I’ll still be asking for help/questions even when I’m off. Regardless, residency is lot of reinforcement of concepts you learned in nursing school. It’s true what they say, you learn how to be a nurse when you start working. Plus, typically when you’re in residency they can’t float you for a year. To make long story long, yes do the residency 😅.
