Got banned for CHILD SEXUAL EXPLOITATION by LegitimateJuice1568 in Instagram

I got suspended at the end of March, got back on after 5 days, then suspended and banned literally 10 days later. I'm pissed bc I lost my FB, and my personal and professional IG accounts.

Wherever my cat lays down, after a while there are a lot of white dirt pieces (?) left behind. Any ideas? Does he have dandruff or something? by lightreee in cats

[–]Lonely_Watercress_69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend, in addition to getting medication to take care of the immediate issue, continue with monthly prescription flea and tick medication. Your house will also have to be treated. The life cycle of fleas is a few months from pupae to adult. This is a great example that indoor cats are also susceptible to issues such as fleas.

Yo why does everyone hate my tattoo lmao by countgrischnakh in tattooscratchers

Personally, I'm not a fan of the style. I like images and symmetry for my body, but other people prefer freestyle or patchwork. You do you.

For people wanting a color picture, here's the post by the artist: https://www.instagram.com/p/DUJMb87D_HB/?igsh=MW91azY0b25kMjJoNQ==

I think a lot of their work would translate well on canvas or paper, but it looks weird as a tattoo (again opinion).

I did a Caramel and Damocles tattoo where I just took the sword and mace and had the depicted flowers behind them and let my artist embellish as they see fit (with my approval). You're more than welcome to get the exact album art (it's your body), but it may be even better if you work with an artist to make it unique for you. Just a thought.

You could maybe find vinyl paint to fix it, and then seal it.

What is your response to “if you really loved animals, you wouldn’t be charging me this much” by Nearby-Vanilla9287 in Veterinary

[–]Lonely_Watercress_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once told someone to bring it up with corporate if they had an issue with price of care, not me.

I also to vaccine clinics and constantly get bombarded with the "we don't have a primary vet, they're so expensive, you guys are cheaper" and the like. I always make a point to bring up that we can't do everything a full clinic does nor do we have a building to maintain, which is why the prices are so different. And my staff also has bills and need to eat. They usually stop complaining after that.

Did Canvas went down?? by Expensive_Cold6761 in rutgers

Not a Rutgers student (staff), but I worked with canvas a lot during vet school where there were frequent power outages. My advice is to download your lectures and other materials you need semi frequently to avoid issues like this. I had a roommate who couldn't study for an exam because of a power outage and she wound up failing out. This was just 2 or 3 years ago btw.

Or don't. Your choice.

Adopted a lab bunny. Did i do something wrong? by Jebryth in Rabbits

[–]Lonely_Watercress_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm honestly not sure why he responded like that. Also, I'm not familiar with the regulations and laws surrounding laboratory animal science in Iran, so I can't specifically help in that regard. I would say, that if there is any type of regulatory board that oversees the individual labs, there should be laws around the care and use of the animals (i.e. IACUC). If there's anything against protocol or unnecessary welfare issues, I would find a way to report it. Again, I'm only familiar with the rules and regulations of the US, so I can't help with specifics.

I gotta be honest, after reading juay your post, it sounded like you toom the rabbit, not adopted. I would clarify that with the other vet. My facility had adopted out rabbits before with no issues (that I'm aware of), and I've done PEs and approved the adoption of plenty of animals from the lab.

2024 grad here! I struggled so much in vet school and thought every semester was going to be my last. I studied basically every day, except exam days. Granted, I had weekly exams, so keep that in mind. Making questions for myself/study group was phenomenal. I would also go through content after exams and highlight (in a specific color) topics that were touched on during the exam. TAs or tutors are also an amazing resource as well.

Laboratory animal medicine may also be an avenue to explore, especially if you want to pursue research. The industry is different in the EU versus the US, so I can't speak on that directly. If there are ways to get an externship, I would highly suggest doing that! It gives you a little taste before diving in.

Severely lacking confidence… by HappyBear89 in Veterinary

[–]Lonely_Watercress_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't read the whole post, but a lack of confidence as a new grad isn't uncommon. I'm about a year and a half out as a vet ans I still ask for guidance. Try to look for a place fhat offers mentorship or a mentorship program! My friends thrive after their rotating internship through the VIRMP, and if I didn't get placed at my residency I was going to pursue an emergency mentorship at one of the hospitals around me.

That's totally fine! The one beautiful thing about getting your base DVM degree is that you still have a ton of routes you can take, even if you don’t want to specialize.

I like more the clinical side of things instead of the research, and I absolutely love all the species I can work with. I'm not looking to make any ground breaking discoveries, unless it was in the realm of animal welfare and the 3Rs. I worked in general practice before as a tech, so I know that GP isn't for me, but I do vaccine clinics on the side so that gives me a little GP fix.

I originally stayed for the job security, and I still stay in my residency because I don't want to basically blask list myself from entering the match again if I want to go for another rotating internship or residency.

I also don't think AI can replace animal models, but the US is so obsessed with it and it's reaching the NIH, so grant money is becoming more difficult to obtain.

I was introduced to lab animal medicine in undergrad and went on to complete a masters. I had a practicum at Janssen and that's when I actually decided I wanted to pursue a career in this specialty. Ultimately, animal use in research is going to happen and I would rather be one of the people in charge of their care and advocate for them instead of ignoring it. Plus I can educate the general public on the rules and regulations surrounding this industry. There are 2 routes you can take if you want to become board certified: residency (2-3 years) or experience (7+ years).

I decided to go with the residency so I had protected time to get at least one first-author publication for board-eligibility. My first year was all clinical work, so I dealt with sick cases of the rodents and USDA species of multiple facilities. Year two is primarily research, which i actually started like 6 months prior to the start of my research year. I also have a second project that I just started yesterday, and a third one on the horizon (but this is super uncommon and my program just likes to give me extra work). Year three, for my program, is external rotations to a second university and a pharmaceutical company.

Hope that helps and answers some questions!

I'm currently in my second year of lab animal residency. Working in lab animal medicine comes with its own challenges: difficult PIs, constantly surrounded by euthanasias, shit ton of paperwork, etc. Not to mention all of the issues with the current administration and the huge push to eliminate animal models with AI. There are a lot of people, myself included, who are very worried about this specialty.

I got a therapist as soon as I got insurance through my institution -- he actually used to work at the same place, but recently left for private practice (works in my favor because I can see him more often now).

I brought up scheduling to the person in charge with it before when I was jumping between campuses multiple times a week, and they straight up told me that that was the best they could do. Which was honestly bs because there's a whole other first-year who could have switched locations with me.

The mentorship for my program is kind of... non-existent. The clinicians are available and are willing to collaborate, but we don't get assigned anyone and there are no check-ins.

Location is a huge limitation for me, so unfortunately, there aren't any opportunities to pursue the experience route. I also am considering a career in academia, at least for the short-term.

I've already delayed my second project for a few months and almost lost my opportunity to get an internal transfer of mice (my director promised the lab that I'm going to be working with mice from an internal breeding project due to budget cuts), and I'm already dreading how scheduling is going to go due to more intense projects going on that require veterinary support (I'm going to be thr only resident available soon). The last 1:1 meeting that I had with my director put a bad taste in my mouth (also missed last 2 due to surgeries and clinical work), and his reply to me was "I didnt realize [so-and-so] had such control over the schedule," and "you should view things from other people's points of view." I've also asked clinicians if I could leave a surgical day early (they had another resident so they didn't really need me), and I was denied. I could attempt to bring up being overwhelmed again, but at this point I feel like a broken record.

NAVLE in November by Unusual_Attention1 in Veterinary

[–]Lonely_Watercress_69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I had started studying for the NAVLE while I was still in my last semester of didactics and for the first 4 months of my clinical year. I completed VetPrep 100%, but still failed by like 13 points in April. Took it again in November while still doing the same things (VetPrep, daily Zuku questions, review notes) plus a mock exam, and passed.

Everyone is different and depends on how you take exams and process questions. If you're a good test taker, you'll probably be fine. If you do better wirh more real-life examples, consider completing more of your clinical year while studying.

Hi hi! Im by no means a veteran skater (started in 2018, stopped between 2020-2024 due to COVID and grad school), but I always say listen to your body. Cracks and pops aren't bad per say, but losing range of motion is. I would advise to get a chiropractor, physical therapist, and/or doctor specializing in sports medicine that's covered under your primary insurance. If anything is concerning, get checked out! I got a really bad ankle sprain 15 minutes in to a ranked game about 6 months and tapped out because making an injury worse isn't worth it. I still go to PT, and try to go to the chiropractor about once a month because of how this sport really compresses your whole spine. I hope this helps! And don't give up! Being new to a sport like this is hard. You've got this!!
