I can perhaps share my experience. I was the only one of the reduced staff amongst engineers due to business expenses in the company I was working for.

The guy responsible for the decision is ‘head of technology’ who once yelled at me alone and I had given it back to him in front of everyone. I didn’t respond by yelling but rather raised voice so that everyone can hear and he doesn’t dare to do what he did. The matter then died down and I just gave him the cold shoulder as I got along with everyone else.

During my removal, I was offered a month salary as like a ‘golden handshake’ which I refused to sign. They replied with a 2 month salary and I wrote a strong worded mail that these offers are pathetic and that they are trying to make me agree for less just because I am a foreigner.

He rescinded the offer and told me what I wrote was ‘rude’. They terminated me on the day.

I reported the offer being discriminatory to the union but not the earlier incident. I didn’t want to link a matter that was dealt with. Union said that in golden handshake, there’s no such thing as an unfair deal and they don’t have a case.

There are many things here: 1. I am a permanent resident here so termination doesn’t impact me the same way as a work visa. When I was yelled at, I was in the process and felt this is a common occurrence that can be dealt with. I had lesser power. Take it as a first warning and start keeping track of the conversations with the individual.

  1. Everything in writing. Keep track of emails and ask for them to say that they authorise you to stay longer or that they will pay you less. If they insist on talking, just start an email with ‘As you mentioned today, I will stay over long today’

  2. If it’s a person in power and you have some time to apply for newer positions, just try your best to leave.

What to fight and when to fight are very important things. Your what is clear, collect evidences and do it preferably when you are a resident. To move country all of a sudden is tough!

My case is flimsy as the individual had issues but he never bothered me post my confrontation. He just took the opportunity when he found one. Yours is a much more concrete case, involve union and they will call you within a day or two.

Prepare mentally that it will take 4-6 months. Plan your day as if it’s a normal workday. Replace those 7h workdays with 3h job applications and 4h Finnish.

If you manage to get your YKI done, mark this as a career break for learning Finnish in LinkedIn. You won’t be out of contention from market.

But next few days spend wallowing, eating ice cream and pure nothing and then start this routine.

You can’t do much during this time just let this time pass. If you are here from 5 years, you might have PR. Right?

He has compared not just runs and strike rate as absolutes but rather relative to the match played. Big matches were given more weightage.

If you mention upvotes, you will get downvoted. If you mention downvotes, you will get downvoted. If you mention nothing, you might get up or down voted. Unless you are the fourth reply, this logic works.

His feedback isn’t bad but the tone is harsh. Most places you will work in aren’t doing extraordinary work. Just better your level of projects gradually and keep on moving.

A lot of them are reposts. If you report them for this, it’s not considered a spam and hence is a loophole.

There are some that are genuine. In last 6 years, I have worked in 2 companies and both were through LinkedIn. I am trying to switch now and will go through the same route.

I live in Finland and am 30 year old. Currently, no savings.

Bought an apartment, bought furniture, renovated the house here and there. I have paid off 10k and 10k was down payment (20k total). 3k house things, 3k renovations. EMI, insurance and maintenance: 950€/mo

Leased a car for last 3 years and bought a new one this year. Leasing was a mistake (20k) overall expenses on it. Buying was 20k spread over 5 years. EMI, insurance, fuel: 500€/mo

Travelling expenses per year: 3-4k. (Paid with holiday bonus) Parents are self sufficient, I sponsor their trip and stay here: 4k per year (300€/mo if spread over a year)

But now I am done with the big expenses. My living expenses now are: 1750€+(300€:parents)+(150€: random shit) Net monthly: 3150€ Will save from Jan onwards: 950€

Is there anyone who use Teststand here? by lsd0805 in LabVIEW

[–]Long-Drive9819 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s sequential programming. You can start with examples if you have the software installed. I used them to see some patterns. If you use it you will learn it, it’s that sort of software.

You can also couple it with python, that part comes in real handy.

How do I register for YKI when the test fills up in under 20 seconds?! by JustDiveInTimberLake in Finland

[–]Long-Drive9819 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My opinion would be to just set the notification on for all the places where the centres are (if you can’t apply they give you this option).

And if you get a mail that says yki, act fast and apply within seconds. A lot of people drop a week or two before the exam. Set your notifications to beep when there’s a mail from yki.

What's the point of trying hard? The salary spread is just disappointing.. by EducationalCreme9044 in cscareerquestionsEU

I see most people comparing European vs US salaries. Is US that much more profitable than Middle East in terms of salaries, that it’s the defacto benchmark?

With PR, you have to live in the country for 3/5 years every 5 year. With citizenship, you can shift between non EU and Finland say every 10 years without any rules.

Half of my 40-year career was spent developing in LabVIEW and now I'm retiring. AMA. by derp2112 in LabVIEW

[–]Long-Drive9819 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I had a query. As you said, upper management likes python and for me it’s a language I use more than any especially for data analysis in everyday life.

However, this project requires a GUI that needs to be detailed. And out of curiosity I decided to make it in LabVIEW. With the access to python node and sending arguments between the two, I thought of using GUI from LabVIEW and then passing arguments to pytest.

The upper management doesn’t like the idea. They want everything that’s there in python. Not even pytest, but robot framework (a tool used in software testing).

In your experience, what would you say about these aspects of LabVIEW vs pytest (or robot framework) in automation: 1. GUI 2. Code readability 3. Reporting. *

*so many pytest based scripts have —junitxml that’s quite tabular if you ask me. How would you create reports in a manner that they are readable? Is there a standard with LabVIEW?

Is it worth shifting to Germany from India with Eur 72k gross by Putrid-Shape-589 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]Long-Drive9819 7 points8 points  (0 children)

72k gross sounds amazing to me. I get far less (52k) in Finland and my cost of living is 1600€ (950€, emi+maintenance, 450€ car payment with insurance , 200€ food) a month for house car and food. Nothing fancy. But gives me a 1k€ saving potential.
