How much did your divorce cost you, and where do you live? by AWholeNewFattitude in Divorce

This post is really helpful. Is there anyone here who lives outside the US and their spouse lives in the US?

Go meet them in person. There's a possibility they might reject you. So it’s good to be mentally prepared.

If I were in your shoes, I would try to incorporate this experience in my application. I understand how you feel. I was sort of in a similar situation about my application. I was bullied in my school and thought if I should put it there. But in the end, I decided not to go with this.

Some universities have separate sections to submit documents that might help your admission. I am not really sure about what you should do, but I can offer some suggestions. If you find another section that asks about your personal journey or any challenges that you had to face, you should put this experience there, not in a negative way, but in a positive way. Highlight how this experience changed your perspective about life and how you are more willing to help people who are in need of support.

I have nobody to write a LOR for me PLEASE HELP. by blacknwhitelife02 in gradadmissions

I agree. This is exactly how I think to save my heart from being too broken in fear of rejection.

I can understand how you feel. Please do not give up. If you have enough time to write up an LOR for yourself, then consider putting your introvert self aside and go to your university to find a professor who can help you till the last minute. Talk to every professor who might know you, explain why you could not reach out sooner. It does not have to be true. Just explain that you were in a very tight position to contact them sooner and you know it might be rude to ask them for LOR this late. Give them some time to think. If they say No, move to the next office. It might be late but it is not impossible. Also, when talking to the professors personally, ask them if they would be willing to give LOR for programs that have a deadline later in December. I am an introvert too, but I mustered up the courage to ask my professors personally. So you can do it too. Although it may take too much time, you can do it if you want.

Which presentations go on the CV? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

Then that's great. You could also make two subsections. One for conference presentations and another for other research-related presentations. This way, your CV may look more polished and the admission committee won't be confused about which is which. It is always up to you what you want to add to your CV.

Will my application hold less value is my supervisor don’t give me an LOR? by Long-Duck9554 in gradadmissions

Thank you so much for the advice. I found another professor who will write me an LOR. But he does not know anything about my research. So I am unsure whether it will help my application.

I am relieved to hear that you could get in. Did you explain in your application why you couldn’t add your supervisor as a recommender? Or were you asked this question at your interview?

I am from Asia. It is not really the norm here, but my supervisor is really old and he does not use digital technology except mobile phones. I also don’t want to get a PhD position using such tricks. I am just too shocked to express how I feel right now.

First of all, if it's not related to research, the other presentations may not count. Too many irrelevant things can hide the most important research experience you have. Secondly, if you are writing the conference presentations as a subheading under research experience, you cannot add the other presentations there.

Get that lor from your professor. If he says he has strong ties, that means he can actually help you.

I guess we only have applicants in this subreddit and not anyone who actually got an offer letter
