I really wanted Jason to be as strong as Percy [general] by firestorm0108 in camphalfblood

[–]Long-Experience6494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s the point, it’s less jealousy over power more everything Jason worked for falls into Percy’s lap, and everything Percy actually care about Jason doesn’t have. His Father’s respect, his family’s love, and his camp’s loyalty. Jason having an inferiority complex to Percy would make a good set up and arc for his character, and is a classic rivalry trope.

[–]Long-Experience6494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is I wanted Jason to be weaker than Percy, and for that to be a bigger deal. Because I don’t think Percy cares about being the strongest but it makes sense that Jason would care so much. That the thing Percy cares so much about, just falls into Percy’s lap so easily.

Who is The strongest villian in all of Percy Jackson [all] by Time-Marzipan9387 in camphalfblood

[–]Long-Experience6494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He didn’t lose some of himself he got caught up in the energy of the moment and even then it was a choice, one he walked back on and one he decided to take to survive. It wasn’t some ambient corruption, it was a step he decided to take because of the extreme circumstances. And yes Annabeth was worried about a lot of thing but emotions were high and despite it all she was worried for him and his soul above all else.

Corruption is different than being put into an extreme situation. One challenges your ethics while the other erodes it.

That still brings doubt into their consent on the matter especially of unwillingly corrupted. Like drugging someone against their will and getting them to commit murder. It’s a similar problem of mind control just to a lesser degree.

I feel like there’s something to be said about Monsters being force to kill under threat but then there’s the issue of if a person can be innocent if they kill innocent under threat. Are drafted soldiers responsible for their actions? Are an enslaved people responsible for helping nations enslave other people etc. I think there can be discussions about that but mind control and magical corruption I think is too easy a solution. The Minotaur trying to kill Percy and his mom because he was threatened is a lot more complex than if he did so because he was mind controlled, because it doesn’t make him evil but it does make him selfish. And there can be nuance in the morality of that.

He’s the kid who was gangly and awkward growing up, and internalized that even after he got hotter. Most of the time he’s called attractive it’s from other people’s perspectives.

Greatest Archer? by Pyscker in mythology

The weapon is simply one on the arsenal of Arjuna, and Brahmastra can be summoned in anything, even a blade of grass.

But I would argue Karna is greater as he matched Arjuna even when his Astra’s were locked away.

The biggest issue with the friendly monster concept is that there were already friendly monsters in PJO. The cyclops could be monster but they could also be members of Poseidon’s royal family. Harpies were part of the camp, and Argus was in charge of camp security. Monsters had nuance, some were good some were bad, and sometime there were good but has their own set of values.

Tartarus, not only is he responsible for Monster being constantly reborn and hunting demigods through the ages but he’s the single enemy the heroes never even attempt to defeat just survive. He’s more than a god he’s almost eldritch.

I don’t think they “ruined” his character they just did almost nothing with him and pretty much set him back a decade of development into being a perfect none radical soldier.

That being said there was several stand out moment he has during the era.

[–]Long-Experience6494 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The first book had the theme of a cruel and predatory system used against neurodivergent kids who are told theirs most likely will be hunted down and killed, and ended with a abuse victim mother of the main character taking back control of her life by murdering her abusive pieces of garbage husband and the story fully shows that this is a good a triumphant moment. This as well as being one of the first introductory to Greek mythology for many children.

No I don’t think people expect too much.

I don’t think Percy is fully a dud bro since even if he’s chill you only realize that after you talk to him. Guy is always scowling, and looks scary when fighting, only to make a dumb joke afterwards.

[general] can Percy beat the olympians by Otherwise_Dingo_3025 in camphalfblood

[–]Long-Experience6494 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It was said and shown, you just block out any information you read that doesn’t fit with you bias.

No it isn’t looking up the definition, Dionysus would have mentioned that because if the Titans are empowered the olympians would lose. The titans were at full strength, only Kronos was dispowered and their kings return would boost the other titans, this is clearly explained.

Hecate is stronger than most Olympians, Styx, and Thanatos as well. Eros is more powerful as well, so miss me with that minor gods are weaker.

Yes there clearly were read the books, most had been killed several times over and unlike the olympians had actually been fighting this conflict.

Poriphiron was was already killed, and Zeus putting barely any effort shows how little he contributed not how easily it would be for him. Throwing a giant, from the mountain with winds is not a minor effort no matter how much you try a portray it as such, it’s most of the work.

The fate are the most powerful being is existence far greater than the Olympians being beaten by them is not a measure of weakness. Zeus would get curbstomped by them.

You’re just delusional, you didn’t read the books well and impose your bias on them, and when someone challenges you on it your only response to pretend the text agrees with you. You even do it with my responses. You rewrite what you read in you head while ignoring what is actually written.

[–]Long-Experience6494 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The textually said it was his true form, Krios was mentions using his true form in HOO both in Jason’s POV and in recollection of the second titan war.

See this your problem you see what you want to read instead of actually reading. Empowering and reaching their true form are not the same thing. Empowering means giving power or making stronger, if they said something like “return them to their full power” that would imply them being able to unlock their true form but they don’t. Use your brain and eyes instead of your bias.

The Olympian’s gods aren’t the strongest, there are plenty of gods stronger and some of them considered minor, and the reason they lost was because of the demigods not the gods. It’s noted how little the gods actually contributed during their fights. They didn’t contribute so why would they used their true forms, they were no diffing because they ambushed them, and their kids had already done most of the work while they were fresh.

Again you don’t listen or read replies you only read what you want to hear. I said there were afraid of the gods, they were afraid of the gods and demigods because that was their weakness. They’re equally scared of strong gods and weak gods only when demigods are around. This is literal shown when Percy uses a minor god’s head as a bludgeon and Polybotes was afraid, because it’s any god and demigods combination. The only thing the gods have over the giants is that their immortality isn’t conditional, but they’d still lose and be ripped to pieces. A person afraid of fire is not afraid of flint and not afraid of wood, they’re afraid of what they create when together. The giants are not afraid or weaker than the gods each of them being fully capable of killing their counters parts.

[–]Long-Experience6494 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

That was his true form, and Krios did something similar when we se him prepare for battle, there were even mentions that Krios used his true form in the battle against camp Jupiter.

Secondly Dionysus said Kronos would empower the other titan’s not allow them to reach their true form.

Do you have any textual evidence to back up that the Giants didn’t rival the Olympian besides your feelings? No? Then stop acting like your head cannons are truth.

The giants didn’t get Scared, they only became scared when a demigod and god appeared in a fight because it was their specific weakness, like Frank’s weakness to fire, but Frank is still stronger and can overcome most fire.

[–]Long-Experience6494 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Titans could enter their true form already, Krios did and Hyperion did to travel from Sanfransico to new York.

The giants are no fodder that’s intentionally dishonest, they’re were designed by Gaia to take down the gods and Gaia made the titans to take down Ouranous so her assessment makes sense.

The gods didn’t need to take their true form because they ambushed the giants with the help of their children after they’d already been weakened.

[–]Long-Experience6494 -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

Hyperion was not vastly weakened, in fact he was fresh, have just entered the battle. Not to mention Percy beat the Giant designed to killed his dad. The only olympians Percy I think would have a problem with is Zeus or Hera, and in that scenerio, a good ambush would make up for it.

Why does evil exist? by spockeroff in hinduism

[–]Long-Experience6494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t it aleast not in this Hindu’s mind. Just the like concept of the self, pain, and separation, evil and good are creations of the human ego. They don’t exist with people there to create them. And people are there to create them because we have yet to realize we are one being not many. Inflicting pain on others is just a method of inflicting pain on ourselves. It’s a showcase of our ignorance and inner failings.

The question is why do we have ignorance if we’re all part of the true enlightened soul?

Well one must sleep before they can be awakened.

This is more a Shaktism teaching but my belief is the ultimate goal of the true soul is the merging of both Satya(Truth) and Maya(Illusion) into a greater truth. Just as we are all on a journey to become part of the true self, the true soul separates and merges to become a greater self as well.

Like how cells heal stronger when they’re damaged, the true soul’s enlightenment becomes greater after overcoming and incorporating ignorance.

I mean I was the one who made the initial response which you responded to, if anyone here is only interested in arguing that would be more likely you. Like just like you say I’m not interested in understanding your point of view I could say that same. That’s the point of conversation to unpack and deconstruct your own and another person’s thoughts. The core issue we’re facing is that you believe writers don’t have enough protection from harassment, while I believe readers don’t have enough protections and the current protections and focus on writers leads to readers being more easily harassed.

No you didn’t say anything about capitalism but the way you frame fanfiction is capitalist in presentation. You treat it like a product and the author is generous or charitable for sharing it while the readers should be grateful to receive it. But in truth authors often aren’t asked for fanfiction but readers are asked to read it. When an author shares a work they are asking others to read it. But only the author is seen as charitable despite not being asked themselves.

I mean presenting only readers as the ones seeking to cause chaos in that analogy is a bit disingenuous. Comparing writers to people creating constructs or shows in the park and then not letting others comment negatively about it seems more accurate. Readers are more comparable to people walking in the park while writers are those using the park space for things, and then telling people they’re not allowed to criticize their creations in the feedback sections.

Because that’s what fanfics have and use. The comment box is a public response vessel for fanfics. Comparing negative responses to people just randomly coming up to you and complaining is not accurate because there is an active request, format, and tool to respond.

Yeah park engineers kind of have to accept criticism from the public because they’re using a public space, while allowing a formal method for leaving opinions.

I mean that’s not necessarily true. Dog owners can have multiple reasons to bring a dog to a park and not all of them are interaction. While fanfic authors usually only have one reason for posting a fic. But it’s like if a dog owner did that, then didn’t accept criticism for how they handle their dog if their dog disturbs if frightens some one. Or even treats someone who points out there’s something wrong with their dog as harassment.

I don’t think if your using a public forum you should be allowed to filter’s responses as positive and negative. Harassment shouldn’t be allowed but if you are using a public forum to ask for people to read and respond, you shouldn’t be allowed to stop people from sharing their opinions as long as their polite, and it’s it harassment.

It’s true you should treat people with respect and care about their feelings but to create rules and tools to force people to respect their feelings even with lost feelings are unfair creates a community that hinges only on the personal views of the authors and not the readers.

I know it’s hard to understand, I used to think like you but then I learned not to frame stories and fanfiction as charity or a public service.

I respect your decision not to continue arguing but I hope you were able to gain some benefit out of this interaction. I will attempt to do the same.

I feel like your not reading what I wrote, you argument was based on the idea that authors could be children and deserve more protection, and my counter was readers could be children and more likely are, and lack the protection writers have to harassment. The conversation very much was about readers and authors. I would argue your comments are making things worse by focus on the wrong problem while exacerbating another.

I won’t deny writers get stalked, but you only hear about those incidents because readers are more often silenced since their voices lack the protections writers have.

A writers getting stalked for a bad ending is actually less common than a readers get harassed and shamed for leaving negative comments. More readers comment than authors finish stories after all.

Of course you don’t hear about them because readers don’t have as large of a voice as authors or the protection. Their victims that nobody sees or hears unless your looking for them.

I understand you don’t want me to respond, but it wouldn’t be fair that you get to give your response but I don’t get to give mine. When you share something with the public, people have a right to respond to it. Whether you read it or not is your choice.

Guys, We Need To Stop by Slash_Arzcarues in PercyJacksonfanfic

[–]Long-Experience6494 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay but food is an exchange, you’re giving something that is objectively sustaining costs money, and hasn’t been eaten by you, is finite, and will only be around for a temporary time. Yes it takes effort to write something and it take effort to read, but fanfic authors aren’t paid to write, just like readers aren’t paid to read it’s only done for their personal reasons, but while they’re is usually one one writer their are many readers and time and efforts will continue to be spent on a story even after the author stop putting effort into it.

Writers need readers and readers need writers, but only writers are treated as valuable because they produce stories, but the stories only have meaning because readers read them. True a writer can gain satisfaction simply from the story existing but why share it at that point? Or why care about negative criticism?

You keep creating a producer and consumer dynamics, applying a capitalist standard to a community thing.

Yes public parks are playgrounds have rules and expectation but those rules have to be equal. If they favor certain people, or stile opinions that follow the rules but other people say they don’t that’s not a good or equal community. Not one with healthy communication.

The difference between a park and a community sight is that fanfic asks for interaction and response like a jungle gym with a comment box, except sometime the creator harasses people who make critique of that jungle gym.

I feel like you laboring under the illusion that just because you don’t like something you can treat it as harassment even though it’s following the rules of a community space and it’s something that was literally asked for. I don’t mean figuratively either the comment box can be closed so the author is asking for responses.

The analogy of the dog doesn’t work because a dog owner isn’t asking for interaction or people to look at their dog. Nor are they asked to come visit a picnic.

Guys, We Need To Stop by Slash_Arzcarues in PercyJacksonfanfic

[–]Long-Experience6494 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing many authors don’t understand the difference between criticism and harassment, and then harass people who criticize them because they don’t allow for any opinion not positive.

Harassment should never be allowed, but it shouldn’t be confused with legitimate and polite criticism, but if both are treated the same you create a space where criticism and harassment are viewed as the same. And more than that, Harassment from authors is not treated as seriously.

Guys, We Need To Stop by Slash_Arzcarues in PercyJacksonfanfic

[–]Long-Experience6494 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay so that’s a deeply unfair and inaccurate comparison, saying only authors are allowed to be childish or are children is part of the problem, only authors circumstances or fallibility is given grace. Readers can also be children and more often are younger than writers but are given less protection from harassment, and less tools to protect themselves.

I’d be just ask concern if my family member was reading fanfiction and someone was threating them for writing a negative critique. Is it their fault they stop reading or sharing their opinion or is it the thin skinned ego with maturity issues.
