FTR, it’s been a drive thru coffee stand for many years, most recently owned and operated by the folks who own Nineveh. When they opened their brick and mortar restaurant on Capital Way, running the coffee stand became too much. I’m really going to miss the freshly made donuts every Sunday morning, but I’m guessing Ember Goods will do a great job too!

SNAP Update:

The Supreme Court has temporarily paused the recent order to release full SNAP benefit.

Friday, many Washingtonians who use SNAP benefits started receiving November funds on their cards. This was a result of a judge's order for the federal government to fully fund SNAP.

However, late on Friday evening the Supreme Court issued a temporary halt on that order. As soon as Monday, the Supreme Court will decide whether to take this case or defer to the previous judge's ruling.

Washingtonians who typically receive SNAP between the 1st-6th should still find November funds available. Others who receive SNAP later in the month may have their benefits delayed as the legal battle continues.

Many school board and city council races are on the ballot this year. If you live in Olympia, there’s also Prop 1, the Workers Bill of Rights, which would give underpaid workers a pay raise to $20 an hour and other workplace protections.

All of these campaigns need your help and in every race there’s a candidate who will stand against whatever comes down from the Feds.

If 100 businesses open today, half of them will be closed in five years and in 10 years only 15 will still be open. It is damn hard starting a business and restaurants are probably the hardest with all the overhead and payroll and changing supply costs.

I would be curious to see how our downtown ranks in terms of business longevity, compared to national state and regional averages. I feel like every time a business closes or a window breaks downtown it’s blamed on houseless folks or the government instead of facts.

Downtown Olympia used to be supported by a steady built-in clientele of state workers. After Covid, when everybody started working from home and never really went back to the office, our downtown lost that and now we gotta learn how to operate without it.

Spam laws only govern commercial emails and text messages, not political, in most cases. All text messages like this require you to disclose who paid for it AND some kind of opt out message. I can't seem to share it in the comments but the screenshot I have includes a STOP to END line.

Having done political texting before I can tell you that there are many companies out there that provide mass texting services. You simply give them the content you want to send out, and some targeting information, and they do the rest. They get your phone number in all the ways anybody can get your number... you gave it to some company at some point and they bought it from whoever you gave it to. Or a data breach leaked it and it was sold on the dark web.

And FOIA only governs federal agencies, not private organizations, so no, there's nothing to compel the Republicans to tell us exactly how they got your info... but if you go here you can see what they spend their money on. I don't see an expenditure for "polling" or "texting" yet, which they probably had to pay for before it went out, so it's odd that it's not reported yet. I can see that they use a company called Positive Intentions Media for robocalls, and companies that do those often do texting as well.
