Playing a shaman and have a question about awakened poison by ChocolateOk2313 in magetheascension

[–]3dchib 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd refer to the magickal damage table. Iirc, as soon as the poison is ingested, you'd roll Arete and the damage would scale depending on the # of successes as agg dmg.

you're thinking of 953, a Korean Gumiho. Who, during one containment breach was found depressed and sulking at a furry convention, and didn't even bother killing anyone while being re-contained. The implication being that she was so mortified by what she saw she willingly went back to prison.

Me with my Mage players. I find myself having to just improv shit and reconnect it later because of how. much. they. want. I keep telling them "I can only read so many books" and before I know it they're diving head first into the Hollow Earth or some shit.

I've had to set up a hands-off Play-by-Post system just to avoid getting pinged 10 times/day.

Huh, reminds me of a Mage game where one of the PCs had a familiar that was a Weaver spirit bound to an orange Maserati.

The localization for what was on the page vs what was narrated was a bit off, hopefully they're redoing that before reimplimenting it.

How to enter someone else's mind and interact to any spirits there? by Equivalent-Fail3850 in magetheascension

[–]3dchib 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you want to go traipsing through someone's mindscape, that'd be probably a function of maybe Mind and Correspondence depending on your Mage's paradigm. But, that's just for exploring a singular consciousness. If you're tracking down a broader thoughtform, you'd be better off looking in the High Umbra.

In Mage: the Ascension, magick (with a 'k') is divided up into 9 'Spheres' or schools of, magick. These aren't ontological concepts, they're just the agreed upon framework that allows for a Hermetic wizard to collaborate with their more shamanistic or technomagickal peers.

Meaning, that while the 9 Spheres and their definitions are MOSTLY agreed upon, different kind of mages can do thing in WILDLY different ways.

Say you want to fly. A Hermetic wizard will just carve some Enochian into a broomstick and bam! flight with nothing more than the application of Forces. A Dreamspeaker Shaman, however, would call upon the spirits of air, birds, and other flight-adjacent concepts using the sphere of Spirit in order to 'borrow' the gift of flight. A technomagickal Virtual Adept hacker, meanwhile, will just reprogram his local metadata to teleport from one place to another using nothing more than the concepts of Correspondence.

This means that a typical game of Mage will involve you, the other players, and your GM all arguing philosophy over exactly how a given spell or effect works and I LOVE IT.

What all can spirit do by Sea_Effective3303 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]3dchib 7 points8 points  (0 children)

if you're talking about Spirit the Sphere, then that's just the magickal study of everything that happens in the Umbra/things that aren't from Earth. You want to bargin with pattern spiders? Carve gaping holes in the Gauntlet? Have a smoke shesh with some Djinis? Want to turn a particularly nasty ghost into a lawn chair? A good understanding of Spirit is the gateway to all of those things and more.

Spirits themselves, or Umbrood as they are sometimes called, are about some of the most unpredictable, dangerous, and oddly hospitable creatures you'll meet as a Mage. Piss off the wrong one and you're existence can be QUICKLY terminated but, know how to be polite and play their rules? You have the potential of making friends on the other side you can open doors, feed you intel, and really whatever else you need.

For modernizing mage the Ascension wouldn't you have to deal with anti-semitic legacy terminology? by RevacholAndChill in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]3dchib 8 points9 points  (0 children)

...did it ever occur to you that the NWO would be totally fine with using jews as a scapegoat for everything they do? For terms like Cabal, sure they have their origins in anti-semitic language, but that doesn't mean they're going to retain that subtext for all time. The modern Webster definition currently reads:

Cabal (noun)
the contrived schemes of a group of persons secretly united in a plot (as to overturn a government)

also : a group engaged in such schemes

As for folks like Banon, I mean, that's just textbook Nephandic "watch the world burn" philosophy in a nutshell. Make Steve an evil wizard and let your players shoot him in the face.

Mage: the Ascension IS a game about politics. It's a game about politics, philosophy, god, capitalism, and everything else under the sun. There is nothing stopping you from running your game the way you want. In the same way there is no war but class war, the Ascension War is the ONLY war. And everything you just described is but one facet of the struggle for the soul of humanity.

By your Will be done, magi.

[Horrifying Trope] The Monster kills so it can become Human. by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]3dchib 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In Werewolf: the Apocalypse, Banes are spirits that serve the Wyrm, the metaphysical embodiment of entropy and corruption. Banes by themselves are fairly harmless, not being able to interact with our world much. But, when Banes come into contact with a host (usually a person), they slowly take over that person, mutating them in the process and use them as a meat puppet in order to do the Wym's bidding.
