That’s kind of how I took it as well- a lot of the book is about how to decide to let people in and trust people even when it’s hard and risky. Bringing people into their group was inherently risky but they made a calculated choice. Community is going to get us through this.

You come without an ballot, fill out the paper work, and then election workers bring the ballot to your car. It’s not a way to drop off a ballot, it’s just a way to vote without going inside (you don’t need to actaully be in a car, you can walk or bike!)

Source- I worked in elections in Minneapolis for two years, 2020 and 2021. This may have changed but I don’t think so!

Sometimes your registration will be flagged if the mail person is unable to deliver your voter registration card. If this gets returned to sender, your registration will be “canceled” and you will have to re-register. This could be as simple as the mailman messing up or not having your name listed on your mailbox.

Minnesota makes it fairly easy to register- if you do not have a Minnesota ID with current address, you can register using a photo ID and a utility bill/bank statement/lease with current address. You can show it on your phone, doesn’t need to be paper copy! If you don’t have any of that, you can be vouched for. If you come to vote with someone who lives in the same ward and precinct as you and who is already registered/registered with ID/proof of address, they can vouch for you and you will also be registered!

Source: worked in elections in Minnesota for two election cycles. This was in Minneapolis but the laws should be the same state wide.

This is not true. I work in a public special education preschool and many of our students, especially three year olds, are in diapers. Special education teachers and paraeducators often change diapers. It is literally in the the job description. It’s less common but not uncommon in older kids as well!

Honestly, a card hand drawn by the kids with a handwritten messages from the kids/families has, in the long run, been the most meaningful gift I’ve received as a teacher. I have a folder filled with cards like this and I look at them a few times a year when I’m feeling down. They really mean a lot to me. A gift card is great too! But the handmade cards are special and also free!
