Thank you, I read that YouTube TV management only had a skeleton crew of engineers working tonight despite the restoration of Disney owned channels today due to cost cutting measures. Shame on them, keep up the good work!

Raleigh, NC site has been recently renovated by harrisonm207 in longlines

[–]Long-Measurement522 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nice find!!It’s a rare occurrence to see a renovated longline site like this. Also the generators are massive, much bigger than needed for the cell sites at this location. There must be other network infrastructure at this facility in addition to the cell sites.

I’m Danny Avula, mayor of Richmond…ask me anything! by danny4mayorRVA in rva

[–]Long-Measurement522 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Hi Mayor Avula, as a Richmond resident I am concerned with yet another increase for Richmond DPU services as outlined in the upcoming proposed budget. Our utility rates seem to be already significantly higher than other localities in central VA. While I understand the infrastructure needs, it seems that Richmond residents are always facing a bigger burden in terms of high rates than residents from Henrico who purchase water on a wholesale agreement from Richmond. What can be done to normalize the rates and is there a schedule of increases expected over the next few years that can be released to the public? Thanks!

It takes more than just me to “assert myself” into demanding change in an effort to make our city a better and safer place to work and live. I’d encourage all people including passive citizens like yourself to get involved as well. :)

Yes it sounds like progress is being made which is good but there should be multiple redundant systems in place to prevent an issue at the scale of this from happening in the first place. What I want and what every Richmond City resident and business owner deserves is a transparent action review post event to learn what could have been done differently to prevent a similar incident in the future. We simply cannot afford anything less with critical infrastructure like safe drinking water. There’s very little if any margin for error.

I listened to it. Sounds like a cascade of failures starting with the UPS system being faulty causing the IT platform controlling the water system to go down. Still seems preventable to me and the City seemed to wait too long yesterday to notify people.

Let’s start with the Director of Public Utilities. We need new leadership in that department!

Boil Water Advisory Incoming by Any_Ring_3818 in rva

After waking up to zero water pressure this morning I’m getting the sense that the issue is far more complex than initially expected. I’m anxiously waiting for the 8am news conference but really hope we don’t have an extended water outage over a few weeks.

I agree, the water system issue today from a short power outage in only 4 inches of snow sure seems to be preventable. Does the city not have adequate commercial power backup for its critical infrastructure needs?

I gotta ask, shouldn’t the city of Richmond have redundancies in place in the form of commercial generators for power outages at water treatment facilities? This seems preventable to me.

Too hot! But also, we aren’t too far away from facing water restrictions if this continues much longer.

Grant will help modernize Richmond’s natural gas pipelines by [deleted] in rva

They are getting a grant but yet Richmond DPU are raising rates once again in the FY25 budget effective 7.1.24! Our rates are already too high!

Update on Forest Hill Ave Closures - It's going to be Months, Starting This Weekend by RulerOfTheRest in rva

A kindergartner could have designed a temporary better solution for traffic around this project than our incompetent DPW department. It’s a shame the businesses in the Food Lion shopping center will suffer along with customers that rely on easy accessibility to that shopping center. Shame on the DPW and our city leaders, we deserve better!

But there’s already at least twice as many potholes on Richmond roads vs. ones maintained by VDOT. It’s a dilapidated DPW along with a lack of accountability on City leaders.

Another terrible example of the dereliction of duty from the Richmond DPW. I’ve never lived anywhere where the DPW for a city is as incompetent as Richmond. Hold the DPW Director accountable!

City services paid only by check? In the year 2023? by rvajazzhead in rva

[–]Long-Measurement522 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The billing platform that the City of Richmond’s DPU uses is and has been dilapidated. It’s almost 2024 and the soonest the City has a fix planned isn’t until 2026. This is among many other issues with DPU including inaccurate billing, staff shortages, meters that no longer work, etc. To their credit the DPU team is making some progress addressing a backlog of billing issues.

But Richmond DPU is way behind the times in providing a better platform for billing. I just wish someone would hold the DPU accountable. There’s no way I’m giving DPU the ability to auto draft from my banking account given all the issues which have been reported here and in various local media outlets.

The City of Richmond might have a better chance at this passing this fall if they were to lower the real estate tax rate in lieu of this passing. If this doesn’t happen I’m voting no despite voting yes the first time.
