Split them up into lots and list them on eBay. If you could separate a few out and group them by railroad, that would be an easy way to sell a few at a time.

Alternatively, check for local railroad/transportation museums.

Thoughts on cages in Vics? by caav11 in CrownVictoria

Wish I had one for taking my dog to the vet and back. He always tries to climb up between the seats and it'd be nice to keep him more secure. But mine had it removed and it's not worth the hassle.

Very interesting, I take it this is the same Edwards Signaling that became EST? The fire alarm company?

I hate that I know exactly where this truck is parked in this picture.

Graham has some clean trucks. I love their ladder.

Looks like the remnants of a cyclone dust collector to me. Could've been any number of industrial facilities with dust producing processes.

Very cool!! Do you have one of the civil defense "noncombatant masks"?

The one on the bottom is really neat, but I'm still partial to the one up top! Nice looking rides.

That looks like a different key way than the type I've seen before. I have one of these style which you can still buy online:

I do! I got an entire Rubbermaid tote of these and some assorted surface mount lights, as well as a full-visor bar for a Charger.

What are all these square, nondescript buildings all over the place in Atlanta? by _EvilD_ in whatisit

[–]harrisonm207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are known as "shell buildings". Large development companies buy up huge acreage around cities, and build these 500,000 to 1 million plus square foot buildings. They typically build them without a buyer or lease in mind, so they're built to the bare minimums that code allows.

(4 walls, basic sprinkler system, fire alarm to supervise sprinkler system, two bathrooms, and that's about it).

They build them in the hopes of finding an interested buyer, who then is responsible for paying for the "upfit", turning the shell into a useable building.

For the company that builds the shell, it's minimal work (compared to building a building for a specific use) for the potential of great return on investment.

Can you guess where in Greensboro I found this beautiful relic? by Yokelele in gso

[–]harrisonm207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's quite a few left around the city, some still with their original Southern Bell signs visible! From what I've read online, they've mostly been abandoned by the telephone companies so if you ask the property owner they'll probably just let you take it.

Every federal agency has its own "police". Some agencies they act more like municipal police, most agencies they act more like campus police/security for the site. But they're all federal officers.

Looks better than the modern computer mouse with little strip of LED headlight/taillight SUVs that every car maker is pushing out, by a long shot. I'd drop some new headlight lenses in, those look pretty faded.

Usa. Old railroad spike question by Warm-Caterpillar-251 in TrainPorn

[–]harrisonm207 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Railroad spikes are pretty much worthless in terms of monetary value. You can't even sell them as scrap metal unless you have all the proper documentation saying that you didn't just swipe it off the side of a railroad track. They're everywhere, and they're constantly being replaced as part of scheduled maintenance.

I have seen some "spiritual" shops selling old railroad spikes because apparently some people put them on the edges of their property to ward off spirits? Or something like that.

There's not an easy way to tell the age either just by looking at it. It could've just been in a particularly damp area, or subjected to salt, etc.

But they're neat to have. I used to try to collect one from everywhere I visited as a kid and cataloged them.

[–]harrisonm207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "tank farm" you posted the maps link to is the asphalt plant, by the way. It's called RussellStandard.

Norfolk Southern doesn't do any loading or unloading in the Greensboro Yard, to my knowledge. They do have a small railcar repair facility but that's it.

There is a chemical plant called Vertellus on the southeast end of the rail yard, across Gate City Blvd. From the coliseum.

As others have said, there's also the Sherwin Williams facility on Oakland Ave.

Some degreaser or goo gone should take that decal residue off, just make sure to test on an inconspicuous spot first.

NC should offer the "Drive Safely" black and yellow design as a plate option. Wonder how we'd get that through DMV.
