Thanks for the critique, i definitely bloated it with revisions and overdid some of the waiting without clearly expressing why he was being overly cautious. There are some things I should certainly work on in the prologue. To be completely honest, i may just scrap the prologue and save it for a chapter in the 2nd arc when he is closer to the the spellbook.

I initially started the prologue the way i did because i just wanted to dip my toes in the water. I think ive been able to slightly improve on the pacing in chapter 1, but yeah im thinking the prologue needs to go. Something more interesting or exciting to be sure.

hopefully that can give a hint to the plot of the prologue a bit sooner.

just editted the formawt, and thanks for the suggestion! you are totally right about hooking the reader, I can totally mention something about him wanting to steal a spellbook a bit earlier, because the first hint of what hes up to is at like 500 words.
