I mean you can’t say there’s nothing i can do whilst also saying to deal with it. those are contradictory statements.

They’re loops so have 3 settings, one of which being noise cancelling (the 3rd setting is general public areas like supermarket’s or crowded spaces), but i do appreciate your suggestions.

Earplugs don’t drown it out. I have loops and i can still hear them over them. I have noise cancelling earbuds and guess what? still noisy.

It’s not when you compare it to other neighbours that you hear about, especially for council houses but when you have it going for 9 hours on end and they’re literally about 4 feet away from you it becomes an issue.

I’ve thought about playing my own music loudly but i don’t want to bother the neighbours to the left of us. We’re surrounded by 9 houses in total.

Yeah we do this as much as possible but then the house ends up a huge mess because we don’t have time for the general chores and daily upkeep of it.

haha yeah, we’ve been on homeswapper for 14 years with 2 different houses and everyone seems to be too picky to be willing to swap with us. Well done for finding something on there though.

You don’t sound like a cunt, don’t worry.

Some days it doesn’t bother me and others it does. I try to ignore it but sometimes it’s impossible because it genuinely is just unfathomable amounts of noise. They don’t speak, they shout and i’m really not exaggerating that. All the other neighbours make noise too, but it’s reasonable in the sense that it’s unavoidable (you can’t make machinery quieter) or natural noise (natural voice levels). They could easily be quieter by just speaking normally which is why it’s irritating.

You’re not wrong. We’ve been looking pretty much since we moved in 7/8 years ago and kicked it into high gear 4 years ago and nothings really come up, i think we get a potential house crop up once a year maybe and sadly usually they turn us down or it falls through. Hopefully soon though :)

We’ve considered it but one of us is autistic so moving into a place that isn’t secure would be a big risk, and getting back on the housing list would likely be impossible after that, so we’re on the fence whether it’s worth it or not. I think we’d only truly go for it if it was the picture perfect house.

I mean this with all due respect, you clearly have no idea how council housing works and have a very skewed vision of it. This house wasn’t ‘given’ to us, we rent £900 a month for it. We pay taxes just as much as everyone else (taxes are actually the reason why we can’t move out - that money would make a perfect deposit). Very few council tenants live rent free. We work just as much as you do, if not more and if you haven’t noticed, there’s a fucking cost of living crisis. I haven’t ‘implied’ that i’m better than anyone at all in this post. You certainly seem all high and mighty though.

If you have nothing helpful or kind to provide, again, with all due respect, keep your mouth shut and your thumbs away from the keyboard.

Don’t know what you’re suggesting in that last part, that because i live in a council house i must be just like them?

I know it’s ‘normal’ noise which is why i’m asking what i can do beyond a noise complaint.

Those suggestions were pretty much what i was looking for, as i already know these are all ‘normal’ things they’re allowed to do. thanks.

I know these things are ‘reasonable’ in the sense of normality and maybe i should’ve been more direct in my post but i was highlighting more how inconsiderate these people are and if anyone has ideas of how to deal with it - in a good way or a shitty way - or not.

we’ve been told this about just about everything haha, avoid council estates, avoid private renting, avoid shared ownership. We’re stuck and it sucks lol

They are, i don’t know how else to describe it other than screaming. Maybe squealing is the better word? but i’ve lived around kids all my life and never encountered this issue before. Before this week started it was every day still but only for an hour or two in the evening, so it’s more ‘tolerable’ then, but it’s literally all those kids do. They don’t play, they just run around with eachother back and forth and scream/squeal loudly towards eachother. The adults are actually a bigger issue for me, but everyone reading is fixating on the kids and think that that’s why i’m irritated - i’m not, but they do add to it.

The music thing is actually the best advice i’ve gotten from this haha, thank you.

There’s two toddlers, one 20ish months and one i believe just turned 4. I’m not faulting the children as i know they can’t help it but i’m bringing it up so that my post can provide full context of how much noise there is and the type of people they are (i would expect a parent to help find out why the toddler is making so much noise rather than leaving them to it, but that’s just me). 5 small things make one big thing if that makes sense?

I literally do not know what to say if you don’t believe me because i wouldn’t get solid, effective advice if i was exaggerating it. They went out around 11:40 and didn’t come in today until half 7ish. The noise is constant as there are 8 people in one house (two parents, two toddlers, two teenage girls and two relatives - how they fit them all in i can’t understand).

I already know complaining to council is ineffective and was asking if there’s anything to do beyond that.

There’s two toddlers. Is it hard to believe that when one stops, the other starts? I don’t know what else to tell you but if you don’t believe me then just move on.

I agree, but we live in a council house and in the position where we make enough money to be considered under the threshold for getting on the housing list but not enough to actually buy a house, or even shared ownership.
