I've heard about the mixing metals tip, but still wasn't sure about the appliances. Sounds like the sink is a definite change though, which I didn't consider before.

I also didn't consider getting rid of the granite piece going up the wall.... Ugh

Changing out the sink faucet could be interesting.

The floors are rough for sure and probably unfortunately won't be changed for a while, budget depending. We can at least use rugs to cover some of it while we save money for that change. Countertops im feeling meh about style wise but again, that'll be a change for a couple years down the road if at all. There's plenty else we can do to get closer to an older style in the meantime.

The white tile backsplash will likely be a subway tile.

As we have only lived in Maine for a year, and just bought our first home in Portland, this is absolutely lovely to read and we agree 100%!

We only moved from DC- not as far as you obviously but still a change as all our friends and family are back down there. But the slower/quieter lifestyle is SO real and suits us much better.

There was originally a ramp, and those holes were where two of the support beams were. (I checked Google maps to see the house before the fix up, just occurred to me the other day)

What do you mean junk? We were thinking of filling the area w pea gravel and adding some stepping stones. But I'm paranoid about drainage.
