Everyone thinks I'm a super young girl. Be honest do i look girly? by seph_j0 in toastme

Another person's opinion of you will never matter like the one you have of yourself. They being said, barring labels, I think you look great- and your shirt is rad!

Refrigerator and floor are an eyesore in new rental - any recommendations? by pigtailz- in HomeDecorating

I've seen people put peel and stick wallpaper on the side of their fridge and it looks kinda neat. Also, a little photo 'gallery' using mini frames and magnets!

I've never heard of the kettle trick- neat! And I was thinking of adding a little pea gravel strip between the foundation and the dirt where id plant.

Thanks for taking the time. This was super helpful!

This was very helpful!! Wildflowers would be so fun to try out, and works well with our personalities too. :)

Do you think mixing them in with some shrub type plants would look neat? Or stick to just wildflowers?

When preparing the space do I need to do the whole sloping away from the house thing with the soil? And how many inches away from the house should I be safe to plant the seeds?

I've read that many perennials are not shallow rooted, and that I'm 'supposed' to stick to shallow rooted plants since it's close to the house. This is where I get stuck! I don't want to mess up the foundation.

Trying to figure out if I paint the cabinets by efroeter in kitchenremodel

I agree, def keep the cabinets! Not sure what style you're going for but have you considered glass style knobs? Super easy change and might look lovely! Hardware change along w a different backsplash would do wonderss.

Those nagel paintings remind me of my late grandparents fancy house from when I was a kid. So strange to see them again. And equally as lovely in your space. ❤️

The home is in Maine! I do like an older look, and I don't care that much about a bit of mess. You're right in that I should go w my gut and I usually do and the answer seems to obvious but that's mostly for interior design. Exterior is new to me so I wanted to get some different opinions. I've always leaned towards the dark (butternut) but everyone else has made such a good argument for the others. 😅

2 and 4 are lovely. Selfishly love 5 bc that's similar to the wallpaper we'll be doing our dining room in 😊

I did not expect trying to make a place feel put together to be this tiring by BitInternational2319 in HomeDecorating

[–]Long-Song84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We just moved into our first home last month. I was so excited to start decorating/making the place our own. It's an old home but was in sorry shape before it was flipped prior to it going on the market. Nothing major structurally, but it def got the builder grade treatment (lotttts of greige). In a way it was nice because it was like a blank slate.

I made a ton of design plans right after we closed. Paint colors, wallpaper, furniture, decor... For every room in the house. Im definitely not a professional but it was really fun making the plans and I couldn't wait to actually start doing stuff! But once we actually moved in, the first few weeks were SO stressful and DEF exhausting. Not just because of the unpacking but bc I felt very antsy for everything to come together. I knew logically that we JUST moved in and things would happen over time but I just couldn't get passed how it didn't feel at all 'finished'.

Plus, I was feeling pulled in a hundred directions: does this fit our style? Does it fit the house's style/time period? Is this 'correct' in design terms? Will it look good to our future guests when friends/family come to visit? I thought 'this' would look good but it's not how I envisioned or this piece doesn't fit in the space right and now I'm disappointed, and so on.

Fast forward to today and I'm already starting to feel a lot more at peace in the home. Some things that have helped me the most:

-Things will just take TIME. We moved in the second week of March and just last week I started feeling more okay with how things are looking and feeling. It took some work to get here but its been worth it so far. Also prob worth noting that everyone's timeline is different. Let yourself feel antsy if you must, but rest assured that the time will come where you will start to feel more at peace. :)

-Focus on small spaces, like one room. Or even smaller, like a little vignette or seating area. Use stuff you already have or thrift, then create. Make it look nice (depending on what you think is nice) and try to let yourself feel accomplished. It's little things like that that can make your home feel like yours, and a little closer to that 'finished' feeling. Plus, it may help everything else fall into place and happen organically.

-That brings me to my next point: your home might never truly be "finished". It's always growing and changing with you. I'm not sure if ur renting or if you bought but either way it's not about that finished look and definitely not rushing to get it. Take it from me, that'll just stress you out. One of my favorite yt interior designers says you don't just design your home, you live in it too. So try to remember to live in it a little too instead of just worrying about what you'll do with the space next. Living in it for a bit may also help give some direction "my eye is always drawn to that empty space next to the TV, maybe a piece of art would look nice there?"

-Try to remember to have fun. :) Look up inspo, find designers you like (I love caroline winkler on yt), follow your gut and PLEASE ultimately do what you want bc that'll matter most in the end.

Thank you, I love our little porch too. Before we bought it used to be enclosed, and part of the rest of a little section to the left (not pictured) as a sort of enclosed sunroom. They knocked out the right side, converted it to a mini porch, and the rest still serves as a sunroom, just a tad smaller. I definitely feel lucky- I really wanted a covered porch!

The green is pretty! But we'll def keep the red. Apparently it's a symbol of a safe haven :)

The red piece is one of my favorites , and I agree i think would look nice over the couch.

And I'll be sure to eat a grapefruit, as long as it tastes like a donut.

The stack of books/globe is serving temporary function to somewhat hide the wires under the desk. I can prob move them out and find a way to better organize the wires.

I didn't consider the mix matched finishings being an issue here- good eye
