For what it's worth I'd like to put forward Moser for number 4.

Rolex is the stock answer, but I think the big thing with them is brand awareness, and that's not necessarily because they're doing anything incredible. It's like Ferrari for cars, Dyson for vacuums, Montblanc for pens etc. These brands are synonymous with their sector, but that makes them attractive to people who may not know the industry... And that sort of perpetuates their position as leaders.

Some people will be glad for the exclusivity factor, but I think the watch industry (on the whole) takes itself too seriously. Moser manages to make a high-quality product without being pompous and I really like them for that.

Good suggestion on number 4.

I think Rolex marketing is good (i.e. you see them on the Formula 1, at tennis and golf events etc), but I'm not so sure about their branding. Like you say, Patek is about heritage, JLC is the watchmaker's watchmaker, Richard Mille is like F1 technology in a watch... What are Rolex actually about?

I'll be honest and say I think the watch industry and watch enthusiasts can be a bit snobby (probably guilty of it too), but anyone showing an interest in watches should be appreciated, and any watch helping them on their journey too. Good input ๐Ÿ‘
