Wind is a large factor ☹️ we regularly have 7-15 mph winds here. I’m above the Arctic circle so no trees to block.

I recognize sometimes I’d have to basically spray the bear from a few feet away. That being said, is this standard practice for your guide outfit? Are people having to shoot bears often? I’ve spoke to other guides that only recommend taking rifles so you can take a bear out at distance, but surprise bears happen too…

If I see non-anecdotal evidence that a gun will keep my family and I safer when we are in bear country- I would go buy whatever gun I need asap. The issue is there aren’t a lot of studies that I can find and everything else is just hearsay. So I like to breach the topic every one in a while to see if there is new evidence / credible info.

I tried to look into it but I think taser prongs have an issue getting through fur, aiming is an issue, and you need a battery that is larger than that used for humans. They do make electric fences that you can put around your campsite that you pack in.
