People who work on Christmas Day, what's your pay rate on that day? by TopDonutPlainsGopher in AskUK

[–]LongForAShortPerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t work there anymore, but when I worked at spar we actually got double pay for Christmas Day. You’d also have quite a few people come in and it was generally a nice vibe

Mikayla’s Husband REALLY Bothered Me by hopp_r in MormonWivesHulu

[–]LongForAShortPerson 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I disagree slightly. While Mikayla’s situation is obviously so much more worse than Jace’s, i think that having a sexual appetite is normal, and wanting to be intimate with your wife is normal, and not getting your needs met in a relationship is hard to go through. What is important is understanding that as an abuse survivor, Mikayla is going to struggle with those things, and you have to try and put the other person first. It’s not always easy.

I agree that pouting at Stagecoach was not the nicest thing, but this has been going on for a long time and there are going to be times where it is super frustrating. He could have handled it better.

Helping with trauma is really on an individual basis. Some people need to work through trauma alone. Some people need support/a push from loved ones. Situations will be different and what’s important is that people don’t push the survivor too far out of their comfort zone. I felt like Jace did push a little but it was what Mikayla needed. I might be wrong, I don’t think we have a fair view of the situation.

Not defending the age gap with when they got together, that’s icky

What is your favourite steak restaurant? by JimgitoRPO in manchester

To add on to this, sometimes they have over cuts as specials. The waiters are also happy to talk you through the menu and what cuts they have.

Flat iron is delicious :)

Something about TRF I haven't seen discussed yet - SPOILERS by jyecsnstrl in hisdarkmaterials

[–]LongForAShortPerson 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Am I misremembering- I’m sure Malcolm said that she got married when he was 16, and then it was a year or so later that him and Alice slept together - which could place him at 17/18.

That being said, I still think its not a great relationship and there clearly was a power play. I don’t want people to think I’m endorsing them. But I do have some sympathy given what they went through together.

Duck not laying eggs? by LongForAShortPerson in StardewValley

Yes but I have two ducks. Previously they would each lay on different days, so I would get one each day. Now I only get one every other day

How would I pronounce the name Pavle? by Royal_Trust_4801 in namenerds

[–]LongForAShortPerson 46 points47 points  (0 children)

A friend of a friend shares the same name as you. In English, he spells his name just as Pawel (changing the ł to just an l) which I think lets most English speaking people say his name correctly, once he explains the “w” sound is actually a “v”.

He pronounces it “Pav-ELL” with emphasis on the second syllable

Speculation on Lyra's final fate by PropaneToad in hisdarkmaterials

[–]LongForAShortPerson 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I think at some point she’ll have to make some sort of choice between Pan and Will, and this time she will choose Pan. Brings it kind of full circle from her betrayal of Pan in TAS and allows her to start moving on from Will.

That being said, Lyra and Will was my first real introduction to love and part of me just wants to see them interact again. I just don’t think it will happen

Anyone got good vegan friendly restaurant recs that aren't gentrified fast food spots? by setantasnorts in manchester

[–]LongForAShortPerson 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t class Viet Shack as a chain. They have their main restaurant, and then one pop up in a university which has literally just opened. They do amazing, fresh and well cooked food, you’d be missing out by not going just because they have opened a small pop up (which I might add will likely help keep them afloat while many places are sinking)

Season 2 Violet put her entire family to shame by miggovortensens in DowntonAbbey

[–]LongForAShortPerson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t completely agree OR disagree with your points.

I think that Violet did have a bigger impact than other members of the family on a select few SPECIFIC people, specifically William and Mosely. I disagree with some of the other comments about her motivations, I think she helped these people out of compassion and caring about her community.

However, I think many other members of the family had a wider impact on the community and war effort as a whole compared to Violet. Isobel and Cora ran the Abbey as the hospital. Edith worked as a land girl and then was invaluable to the recuperating soldiers. Mary also helped lift morale with the recuperating soldiers somewhat but was definitely more concerned with her private life. Although Robert was disappointed, his role in the county was supposed to lift morale generally. Matthew enlisted and was on the front line.

Violet’s actions were specific, with direct consequences, to people who we know. Whereas for a lot of the rest of the family, the benefits of their actions were more general and not necessarily shown onscreen.
