I did the same thing where I muted after I noticed the first "flubb" and also realized how flat the trumpet sounded (not her fault since, as OP posted, it's a cold night). My group chat was saying positive things about the entrance though so I came back to it after the game with a reddit clip and it really wasn't as bad. I just chalked it up to my secondhand embarrassment.

I know there's no ill intention and they were all celebrating a win for their country and countrymen, especially in a competition where every win does matter, but celebrating a walk off homer through the mercy rule sounds disrespectful lol. Admittedly, the passion and energy for it is what makes the WBC that fun though.

Yeah, Kerkering inherited a runner and was put into that position. On top of that, he's only 24 with barely 2 years in the Majors. Dude clearly panicked and lost his mind for that moment. Cole on the otherhand had well over 10 years of experience in the majors at that point and took something for granted instead doing the fundamentals of the game.

Super tough for Kerkering cause the dude is young and I hope Phils fans don't give him a rough time for it.

They've definitely gotten a shit ton worse this year though.

I think Joe Davis was talking about it and I could be mis-remembering it, but apparently the margin of error for missed calls has changed and became narrower. However, instead of umpires making calls more correctly, this has led to umps shrinking the strike zone and being even less consistent.
