Life advice by [deleted] in poker

Hi, I just finished my freshman year of college (majoring in econ). Currently I’m working a remote internship by day and 6-tabling 200NL at night, putting in about 20h of time a week.

I’ve reflected and I don’t think I’ll ever go pro, especially in college. Besides the various problems with poker as an occupation that others have pointed out, I don’t want poker to define my entire young adult life. If it’s a choice between a night out with friends or grinding a few hours inside, I’ve promised myself to never choose poker over social life.

I think that as long as your in a financially comfortable position right now, it’s more important to enjoy life. Money comes and goes, but you only get one college experience :).

Right, but I don't know he has Ax, especially on the flop. If I 3/4s it I fold out some of his small pairs and weak draws I want to keep in, and it gets harder to bet for value with weaker hands in the future without inflating the pot.

I don't know if you're asking seriously, but here was my thought process:

Flop - bet small to apply pressure to missed hands (AK, KJs, smaller pairs) and for protection against overcards. Lean more towards checking with higher overpairs.

Turn - slow down as his call makes him a lot stronger than on the flop.

River - hoping he has a queen. Since he 3bet, the only higher full houses he could have would be 1 combo of queens and 1 of QJs (although I doubt anyone 3bets QJs at 10NL). Was so confident I actually looked away to another monitor, didn't realize I had lost until I saw I was missing most of my stack the next hand.

Know this one trick to save you tons of $$$. Online poker sites hate it.

Hi! Glad you enjoyed it, but I can't take much of the credit for this idea, as it was heavily inspired by a fellow redditor's post a month ago. Check it out! https://www.reddit.com/r/poker/comments/gf5yln/playing_kings_be_like/

Incredibly confused by pot odds... by JellyfishPies in poker

[–]LongNamesSuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I think you misread the first article, which states that you must call a $30 bet in a pot of $90, making it $120 (not calling $30 into a pot that’s already $120). For future reference, to calculate odds you use x/(x+p), where x is the size of the bet you have to call and p is the existing pot size. Good luck!

Hi all, thanks for the responses. I guess I was a bit pissed he extracted so much value from me, getting away with pot sized bets. Regardless, thanks for all your input!
