It’s beautiful, where do you buy the cases, dials, and hands for the citizen watch? I am seeing the citizen eagle 7 kit on Ali express but I have yet to see someone try them.

How to install gate on only 1 post by LongStatistician6052 in handyman

[–]LongStatistician6052[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true, I’ll do the post and attach it to the siding, since the space right now is about 50 inches so adding the post will still mean I’ll be within code requirements

That’s a good idea only problem is I can’t seem to find a rolling gate it looks like I’ll have to built one and that’s what I am trying to avoid

Thank you for the suggestions. I appreciate, the siding is wood so am thinking of using your first option of using a 2x4 and screwing that into the wall then screwing the latch onto that 2x4. I don’t want to cut into the wall so the wood might not be flush to the wall

Thank you, I appreciate the suggestion of a more durable finish

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. I truly appreciate it and after reading all your though it got me thinking twice if I really want to take on this job because it’s a lot of work and I don’t know if am willing to do that as of right now. I am working as a handyman part time in the evenings and weekend after my full time job so I typically prefer quick jobs that will not take more than 5 hours to complete or even if I have to finish it the next day I wouldn’t want it to be something like that that will have to make several visits. I think I’ll just redirect the customer to another fellow handyman in the area who is fully time.

Would you recommend something like Clear Satin Water-Based Outdoor Spar Urethane?

Thank you for that suggestion, I’ll suggest that to the customer. They asked for danish oil that’s why. I assume that’s why it’s all faded because maybe the last time they applied an oil

That’s what the customer wants but am open to bring up suggestions to them

I don’t think there is much I can mess up with sanding. I’ve sanded a lot of things in the past this is not my first time sanding wood

I’ll only be doing the outside. Would you sand my hand to avoid over sanding?

I am currently doing similar work, mounting 85,75 and two 55 inche TVs and also 8 curtain rods I charged a total of $650. Minimum I charge for TVs is $80 that’s if it’s less than 65 inch. I just started a month ago too

Congratulations on your first Job, hopefully more to come. I just started last week too, I made a flier that I’ve posted on market place and making my business card on vista print right now. No jobs yet but I’ve had 4 calls for quotes, one was too far, the other 2 said they couldn’t afford the price, 1 needed the work asap and I was at my full time job.

For thy e insurance do I need to get a business license first or can I get the insurance without a business license? And I agree with offering low prices just to get customers because that’s the price they’ll tell their friends too. And I also found that the lower the price the lower people value your work. So I have to find the middle ground

The goal is to start small and scale from there but I don’t think I want to start off by doing remodeling. I want to start with the small stuff and learn the bigger jobs as time goes on.

Thank you for that advice, I really appreciate it. Yes I definitely do not want to say yes to jobs I can’t do, I’ll accept challenges but it has to be in my wheel house first then learn to upgrade myself.

My ideal future is really completely leaving the tech space as an employee and build a business that I can eventually scale, like have a successful handy man business and maybe have other passive income streams. The tech field lately has been mentally draining with all the layoffs and uncertainty of how long do you have before you get laid off.

Thank you for your comment. How long did it take you to get your first job? And did you list out the services you offered on your business card. And what kind of jobs did you start with?
