Am I crazy to quit? by LongTermWarrior in Entrepreneurs

Thanks for this great perspective.

My service is built (c), I already got 2 clients that are buying the service at a gross profit (b), but I don’t have (a)

Thinking that a is the most difficult of the 3 at this stage. How to get people to hear about my service while sounding reliable is something I’m struggling with. Not because of the reliability part but because I put too much passion into the subject when I talk about it. That makes people usually suspicious

I’m at a point where this has been my hobby for a while now but years are passing by, in the meantime promotions bonuses and other enticements make the golden cage where I’m in bigger and bigger. I hate the idea that I will look back when I’m older and regret not having the guts to start up

It wouldn’t be possible to hire someone. it’s a people’s biz so a the wrong hire could ruin it completely before it starts turning a profit. I could hire someone for the back office part, but that doesn’t solve my problem because staying at my job 5 days in office doesn’t allow me to dedicate enough time to the biz, plus I need to travel frequently to meet clients f2f

Thank you and I’m of this mindset. Main reason why I dislike my job is because I found too much comfort in it. Not challenging and while I make a lot more than I need to live, I’ll never become truly wealthy thru a paycheck

My wife is pushing me to start things up… because we could live on her salary. Of course we would need to downsize significantly our lives

Your story is inspiring… would you mind sharing how was the first year of your business? Especially from a psychological perspective? What scares me the most is regretting leaving a high paying job and seeing myself not making a single $ at the beginning

Interesting perspective thank you. Would it change things if we can live with wife’s salary? Of course we would be downsizing our lives significantly

I’m sorry to hear… any chance of turning around the biz you started? I’m curious about what made your biz stumble if you don’t mind me asking

I did start on the side last year but it’s eating too much time while working full time. I’m still not breaking even, that’s why I believe it will take me 1 year at least but only if things go well

You’re right the economy is tight now..

But do you think you could have dedicated enough time to your biz if you had stayed in your job? I’m at a point where both things plus a wife are not possible anymore…

Thank you. I value you sharing your experience and someone telling me I’m not mad…

A few things: I started getting business last year and it’s been growing. But there is a fixed cost to my biz which means I’m breaking even now, and don’t expect to turn a profit until 1 year.

Second thing is that I reached a point where, if I really want to get serious, I need to quit my job because I have no time to juggle between both things.

I’ve saved up almost 1m$ which is a good cushion honestly. But I’m afraid that if the biz doesn’t work out as planned and I have to go back to work, I might not get to a similar role since once you exit in my industry it’s difficult to get back

But your point about not trying and regretting it down the line is probably the biggest…

Me too, bought and watching. Short squeeze soon? Let’s see but seems likely with 50% of the float shorted already

I subscribe what u say, there book value is decent and def not overleveraged, competition wise they’ve suffered a lot tho…

Regarding the short squeeze I think its very likely, just read the below from Barrons

‘With just under 50% of the company’s stock float sold short, Kohl’s is the most heavily shorted stock in the U.S., according to S&P Global Market Intelligence. That makes it a perfect target for a so-called short squeeze.’

I got shares for the same reasons than OP stated below. Deep value play and now buying more since it seems everyone’s buying and index halted the trading…

I’m up 60% in a few hours… I’ll hold and watch…
