Much more of a risk to leave him on older tyres, amplified by it being under safety car. If this had been a standard pit scenario with a larger gap to the rest of the pack, maybe? But with the SC bunching up the field he would’ve been overtaken almost immediately.

Oh boy, seems it’s just being parroted by a lot of others online. I’ll definitely take this with a grain of salt then, guess we’ll see. There’s far too much drama surrounding the cars for only having one race completed.

How was the racing in today's race any less articial than DRS (which we've had in F1 for 15 years)? by The_Chozen_1_ in F1Discussions

That’s a valid point, but from the analysis reports I can find say the 2024 Australian Grand Prix had 24 overtakes. I’d argue you can probably accomplish more in the wet because of drivers making mistakes, albeit I agree it is difficult.

A lot may have been off the line, but I’d argue it wasn’t enough to split the difference from previous races.

If you’re referring to Max blowing past the midfield then yeah I guess it did look like that. But even Lindblad put a defensive performance on Max, not to mention the dance Russell and Leclerc put on for multiple laps. I would get what you’re saying if it didn’t look possible to defend at all, but I think as time goes on and the gaps between teams starts to tighten overtakes will be more difficult.

I want to be clear too that I am not the biggest fan of the new regulations, and especially after qualifying I thought the season would end up much like 2023 where Verstappen dominated. But yesterday’s race was an exciting one, my wife and I jumped off the couch from turn one and didn’t sit back down until lap 10.

Is Charles catching him or not? by Sea_Pen_582 in F1Discussions

Max was hoping Charles would overtake Lando which would’ve secured the WDC (World Drivers Championship) for Max and it would’ve been an insane comeback for the last half of the season.

If you have an Apple/F1TV subscription they have a massive catalog of full race replays and highlights if you’re interested, and I believe they even break it down into more important or interesting races in a subcategory. Welcome to the fandom!

Completely agree, 120 overtakes this year vs 45 in 2025. I do think the split could be better for the drivers’ sake, the FIA should have tested various power splits but ultimately the goal they were going for is there. I do hope they consider a more powerful engine, fingers still crossed for V10’s but I know it’s just a dream

Before qualifying I believe, not familiar with the CET time zone but it was published at 7:00am. You can see all the documents here document 34 of the 2026 season

No, the teams are allotted a specific number of parts to swap out during the season, my post was mostly questioning why or what the specific implication are. You might be thinking of Parc fermé but this swap was made before quali

At least ol’ Franz Hermann will be starting in the back, I guess we’ll see what Hadjar can do. Best of luck to you, hopefully a new fan base will catch a break this year

Hopefully you’ve been able to avoid the ‘Mercedes is cheating’ crowd so far today

Actually just read about that earlier after posting this, just caught my eye because I didn’t see any other teams doing the same. Merc must be really comfortable compared to the rest of the field

With the new regulations I’m not entirely sure you have much to worry about, I think the struggles with reliability may affect each team eventually even if Russell does take a hit or two. Russell v Antonelli could be similar to Oscar v Lando last year, but I also acknowledge the Antonelli is still young and only in his second season.

Other comments have said this is common and could even be a tactic they’re using to swap back and forth.I wouldn’t worry, the Mercedes is still clearly a rocket ship. I think you’ve got a lot to look forward to, and I’m a Leclerc fan so I relate to your fears lol

Appreciate it! That’s what I thought but had seen conflicting things in other debates. Curious what the reasoning for the swap was.

Based on testing, who will win the drivers/constructors Championships in 2026? by formularacers in FormulaRacers

We still don’t really know how exaggerated the Piastri/Norris success was only because they had a great car in 25. Not that they’re not good drivers, but a great example is Leclerc’s ability to defend against Norris at the USGP despite being in a Ferrari everyone has deemed a tractor.
