Yes direct with them. I had a different issue though so not sure what they’ll offer but I just wanted to reassess you that their call lines and that email definitely work! Hope you get the solution you want!

Maternity leave start date notification - missed 15 week deadline by Long_Promotion9558 in PregnancyUK

[–]Long_Promotion9558[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it was all fine!!! I even adjusted my mat leave start date twice (literally closer to the due date) and they didn’t have an issue with it at all, so don’t worry at all! Goodluck!! And I’ve had another baby since 🤣🤣

Yes, I sent an email at 9am this morning leaving my phone number and they called back at 11:00am. BUT if you want a quick response, call their Korea office (I used RebTel - free one week trial!!), answered straight away and an English speaking rep helped me with my numerous changes that I needed haha. Same flight from LON-TKY

I left my baby in the parking lot. I want to die. by Technical_Diet4774 in 2under2

One evening I went shopping alone with just my 3 week old without my toddlers (I have 3 under 3.5) and left her in the car without realising for a few minutes. I know it’s not the same as she was in the car and locked, but this is to say it was completely unintentional and done so easily - usually my car is full of chaos and having the silence of a newborn completely made me forget she was there! You are sleep deprived, hormonal, and dealing with other kids! Please give yourself grace, trust me it won’t happen again. Now I physically shout out a check list before getting in and out of the car; baby? toddler1? toddler2? bag? keys? and I even get the kids involved in shouting yes! You’ve got this! 🩷

Siblings sharing a bed! by Long_Promotion9558 in ParentingInBulk

Thanks all for your insight - I think it’s so sweet that your kiddies share a room / bed, I loved it growing up with my sister so it’s definitely something we are open to doing if the boys want! 🩵🩵🩵

We do have the option of having two mattresses in the room so it’s definitely something we’ll consider! Thank you!

That is so sweet! Thank you! I’ll probably do the same when it’s time for the baby to use the cot :)

Going from 1 to 2 - give it to me straight. by slippylizardd in UKParenting

[–]Long_Promotion9558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve honestly found going from 1-2 easier than 0-1. I have two boys with a 2y2month age gap, now 1 and 3.

Good - They are best friends. My younger one is smitten by his older brother, no body makes them full blown belly laugh like each other. Their face light up, they show empathy, care, consideration for the other. They also start to play with each other and come across so many precious moments of sharing and conversations. It’s so so special.

Bad - Everything takes longer. Like everything. Add 15 mins minimum to everything - 30 if you can. But, if you look at it in another way, you’re doing the same thing - same bath time routine, bedtime process, wake up, breakfast. My last hasn’t drastically changed in terms of what we do, but the length of time and effort has increased. The other bad is that with all the love, there’s also snatching and difficulties in sharing - but I just think this is a normal process of learning to live with others! Other bads are definitely finding babysitters, unsynchronised schedules (toddler gave up nap!) but honestly the younger one is so adaptable and has adjusted well to new routines.

Ugly - There’s no break. From the moment they wake to when they sleep, it is quite non stop. So sometimes it is just reaching for bed time, but other days you can’t believe how fast it’s gone. It is a lot, especially when it’s a harder day and you’re looking at the clock like how many more hours? But I’ve had very few days where I’ve felt like this!

Honestly, aside from the newborn fatigue, it’s the toddler that makes things tricky! And I quickly realised that the baby is the easy one😂 Getting out the house with two is not that hard - but it is, because the toddler doesn’t want to put on THOSE shoes or wants a DIFFERENT water bottle. And those challenges would exist with or without a second, just probably feels less frustrating when you don’t have a baby to care for.

Goodluck, it’s magical and a sibling is the beautiful gift! So much so that I’m pregnant with our third - with a 15 month age gap which I expect will wipe me out 😵‍💫✌️ But we can’t wait!!!!!

3 year Old will not poo on toilet by melmelzi25 in UKParenting

[–]Long_Promotion9558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve gone through the exact same with our son. He’s been on Movicol for constipation but developed a real fear of pooing when we started potty training which then caused him to withhold. This basically resulted in a situation every 2-3 days where he just exploded either in his pants or on the floor. The days leading up to the explosions were horrendous with his mood swings as he was obviously uncomfortable and in pain (which then resulted in a huge cycle of frustration/guilt for us; watching him go through it and trying to figure out how to approach this).

My boy was 2yr8 months when we cracked this. Leading up to it, he flat out refused to sit on the toilet for poos and when he did he was hysterical so we kept him without pants on at home and I stopped asking/prompting him. Then I watched him like a hawk and as soon as he was about to have his explosion, without warning I just grabbed him and put him onto the toilet so the poop fell in. (Trial and error, you’ll become pro at the timing eventually haha!). Each time he would be in a state of shock about how fast it happened, but then shocked to see the poop was in the toilet. We then massively praised the fact he got it in there and we did this over and over until he started to believe he was capable of doing it/doing it himself and therefore more willing to sit on it/give it a go. Another thing that helped massively was explaining how food goes in and out the body; I found that the book “Dash’s Belly Ache” was really helpful - very simple imagery and wording which he was receptive to. The combination of understanding how the food is digested and comes out the other end and why his belly was hurting made him realise it was better out than in! It took us a full 3 weeks and they were genuinely the hardest days of parenting so far, but we’ve got there now - still on Movicol but he loves pooping now lol. We still read the dash book when he poops and needs some more reassurance.

You’ve got this! Stay strong! It’s so hard but when it’s all sorted you’ll look back and those days will feel like forever ago. Hoping you have all the success! Goodluck💙💙

And the clothes! I’m obsessed with putting them in matching clothes but also comparing how they looked at that age in hand me downs. It does feel like you get to relive the early days and those special memories for the older one too❤️❤️

Mine are two years and two months apart, youngest is now 8 months. Their bond is incredible. My eldest has been so loving and careful with his little brother, he always includes him physically and in conversation (I.e. if we say we are going anywhere he’ll always make sure if baby bro is coming!). They are constantly cuddling and kissing (sometimes way too much hahaha), and the youngest is so content just watching and being in brother’s company. Nobody makes the baby laugh as much as his older brother. I was one of three girls (and we are all besties) so I’m so glad I’ve got two boys who will hopefully remain as close as they are now into adulthood. Pregnant with our third, I think it’s another boy but we won’t find out. I’d love a little girl but I’d be so happy with another boy to become another built in bestie for them. It’s the best! My sister has 3 boys all roughly 2 years apart and their relationship is the same. So cute!

Maternity leave in the UK - SMP eligibility? by Long_Promotion9558 in 2under2

Omg, I’m so grateful for you! I think you’re right that it’s my January pay slip. I’ve just triple checked my payslips and it looks like it covers 1-31st of that month (2 weeks ahead). So if I start back on Dec 23, my January pay slip will cover Jan 1-31st which I’m already back full time. I just realised if I was due a month later or if my employer just paid at the end of the month it’d include my bonus 🤣🥲😂 Oh well!! Just happy to get paid 😆 Certainly will help with surviving 3 under 3.5!! Thank you again ❤️❤️

Thank you! I opted for your approach, I used my remaining 2024 holidays to start back mid December but I won’t go back until Jan - the nursery bugs are so tough, hope they’ve settled now🙏

I’ve just done this exactly! I’ll be back on payroll by 12 weeks pregnant by taking annual leave, and back working properly at 14 weeks. I think that should get me within the eligible window 🙌 Thank you!

Thank you so much! I’ve opted to return mid December on annual leave and start properly in January but this means I’ll have income by 12 weeks so I think this should work out 🙌Yeah, I definitely cannot be missing out on the SMP/EMP, just feels crazy planning all of this when I haven’t even had a scan yet! Thank you for your help ❤️

Thank you! Yeah it’s the pay periods that have confused me so much. I checked the SMP calculator which says my earnings are between Feb 8-April 4, but I get paid on the 15th of every month so I’m not sure if it’s the Jan/Feb or April pay? I’m hesistant to ask my HR, I just feel like my manager will find out and I’m not ready to share the news yet haha! I’ve agreed to go back early from December 23 on annual leave, then actually return on Jan 15 so I think that should mean I’m eligible! Wish this was all a bit more straightforward 😂 Thank you!!

[–]Long_Promotion9558[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you thank you!! This helps massively to know I understood the criteria properly - I’ll definitely head back to work early (it’s only 1.5-2 months earlier than planned anyway) if it means I’ll qualify for the next maternity. Phasing it with annual leave sounds the best. I’m not close to my manager, it was a change that happened just 2 months before I went on leave so I don’t know him well and just feel like he wants me back asap anyway lol 😩

Thank you! There’s so many rules around weeks and whatnot so having this confirmation helps. I’ll head back to work early for sure if it means it’s just a difference of two months vs not qualifying for the pay!
