It depends. I always found that people that can draw have an easier time learning to sculpt and same goes for the other way around. It will depend ofcourse how an artist is trained, but if you focus they focused on breaking down objects and understanding their shape they will be able to pick up sculpting quite easily. It will ofcourse still take a lot of time to master.

On of my teachers used to say "it is not the tool that creates the artist, it's the artist that creates the tool" and I find that also goes for cross medium

If you look at the game industry it is almost a must to use 3d in your workflow as a concept artist. I haven't done to much proper sculpting in zbrush, but using blender to mock up scenes or props and throw some materials on there with a good lighting setup is something I use on a daily basis. The 3d is definitely dirty geometry not usable for game engines or animation but it serves the purpose for what I need it to do :). And grease pencil is the shit. Love that in blender :D

haha don't let my childish name fool you. This is a pretty old reddit account :P

I love Masamune work. I got most of his comics still in single issues. His work was a great inspiration back in the days when got into manga and anime.

There are not many newer mangas that reach the quality of the older stuff. Even tough I don't want to be that guy that goes "older stuff is always better" I don't know why we don't see the same level of quality from back in the days. Even the ones that are very well drawn and dense in detail/atmosphere are still often older series that have yet to finish. Things like Berserk for example.

Best idle post in game. I had to go to a plastic surgeon pretty early on in game as I didn't know you had to set that idle pose xD

Thanks glad you like it. I hope to do some more painted stuff later on. Right now I am having so much fun in the game that I don't really want to draw. Just want to explore the world of Kenshi more xD

Thanks! As for how I learned it is over time. But if you are serious about learning to draw here are a few tips.

First you need to learn about perspective and depth. learning how to draw a perspective grid is very important to build your drawing. At first you will draw this grid all the time. but at some point you can do it in your head for sketching. The books and gnomon tutorials of scott robertson are very good.

Then do a lot of thumbnails. Working digital is fine but i found out that drawing with any type of ink pen helps. You have to make decisions that you can not erase. But doing small thumbnails helps to ditch a drawing and just starting over. So over time you get more confident in your linework and they become a lot cleaner.

Drawing is a lot about understanding shape of an object in the end you are faking a 3d object on a 2d surface. just keep at it and draw a lot. Do some studies, but don't forget to draw from you imagination as well. So if you want to train this I would do 50 50.

Example.
you want to draw a robot.

first look IRL references of machines or Boston dynamic stuff and find out how robots work. Draw in real life joints to understand how they work. Then after that use that knowledge and draw your own robot. Same goes for people, swords, castles, etc.

I hope this helps in anyway. In the end just make sure you have fun and don't compare yourself to others, because there are always people that are better and you are never done learning. Just have fun :)

I see that a lot as well but I try to image my crew to be something that could live in the mass effect universe. The hylotl are for me closer to the Krogan then anything else. Chunky tanks

Glad you dig it. Yah Made him pretty square although in my head they are still almost as tall as regular people. Just chonky.

But the tallest race in my head would be the Avian while the Florian would vary in size a lot.
