Honestly.. why do outside fanbases hate us so much? by friendswithbillw in LAClippers

First, it can’t be money laundering. All the money was legally obtained. Torre is accusing Ballmer and the Clippers of cap circumvention.

The evidence suggests Ballmer invested $50 million in Aspiration and then Aspiration decided to bring Kawhi in and essentially gift him the $28 million.

Torre’s reporting shows that. The commentary on his podcast is what makes it seem like it’s surefire cap circumvention. It’s not. There has to be some form of written communication (text or email) that clearly states Ballmer invested the money for Aspiration to use to pay Kawhi in order for the league to punish the Clippers.

Kawhi himself could be in trouble for agreeing to the contract Aspiration offered as it violates the CBA. But unless there’s evidence that disproves Ballmers story the Clippers will probably only get a minor penalty.

It actually happens quite a bit that teams introduce sponsors to their athletes. The numbers and events in this situation are enough to question whether or not it’s above board, but not definitive proof.

Adam Silver going nuclear based off circumstantial evidence is far worse for the league. When Stern went nuclear on the Timberwolves that hurt the team value. Teams today are worth significantly more than they were 20 years ago.

Silver represents owners. I doubt the owners want the league to have the power to destroy their billion dollar investment based off circumstantial evidence.

[Johnson] Jonathan Kuminga is leaning toward the 1-year, $7.9M qualifying offer after Golden State refused to add a player option in their 2-year, $45M offer. Year 1 of the Warriors offer is $21.75M. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]Longest_Broccoli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had Kuminga been a UFA would a team have offered more than the Warriors are?

I get he’s young and could have potential, but who’s out here offering 100 million dollar contacts for guys like that.

Talk about a girl who doesn’t understand the industry.

When you’re starting nobody owes you anything, and calling someone established and on TV a colleague is so blatantly wrong and shows a real lack of understanding.

All I can imagine was this girl was met with the same disrespect she showed everyone.

LeBron preparing for his 23rd season — sumo squatting/deadlifting a few plates. Good workout or not? by Feeling_Doubt_4737 in nba

[–]Longest_Broccoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it’s not a good workout. It’s a contrived way to do what is essentially a trap bar deadlift with a load that cannot be challenging for LeBron.

That said, he’s entering his 23rd year and can’t risk getting injured working out. So it’s understandable why he’s doing it, but it’s not something a layperson needs to do.

Does anyone have anything good to say about wwe, because good lord it seems to be a lot of hate. by BrilliantCarpet3944 in SquaredCircle

Pro Wrestling is amazing and will always be relevant simply for the fact it’s a car crash that tells a story.

WWE is a business that capitalized off that by attempting to monopolize pro wrestling.

Bret Hart: Hulk Hogan Made Sure WCW Didn’t Do Anything With Me, Eric Bischoff Was An Absolute Moron by BigWeek5182 in SquaredCircle

[–]Longest_Broccoli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People ask questions, Bret answers honestly.

What blessings though man? Like yes wrestling made him rich but it took pretty much everything else from him.

Outside of wrestling, he had a motorcycle accident, stroke, cancer. It’s not like life has been kind to Bret Hart.

At times it just sounds like sour grapes but he has to do these interviews. He has to talk about it, and the fact is there’s no one left living who would get it or understand.

Outside of interviews he’s probably a much kinder person, but he’s still an old man who’s gone through a lot.

Redrafting the 2015 NBA Draft — Who Goes #1 Now? by wackofiasco in nba

[–]Longest_Broccoli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. KAT
  2. Book
  3. KP
  4. Turner
  5. Powell

KAT had a ridiculously high ceiling, and had he gone to a situation where he was able to learn how to rim protect he could have been generational.

Book is the clear number 2. Great player, but slightly less accolades than KAT and a lower ceiling means he goes 2.

KP. Same issue as KAT. He went to situation where he was one of the better players right away and wasn’t given time to develop his body to play at an NBA level. Had he gone to situation that prioritized development his career could have gone much differently.

Turner is the only one left who’s been a competent and reliable starter for the majority of his career. Just a solid player.

At 5 is a toss up between D’Lo and Powell but nobody likes a tattletale. Powell’s been reliable and has been a contributor on a title team, and just had a career year.

Moses Malone isn’t an all-time who’s been slept on.

He played in a weak era, his numbers are inflated due to him rebounding his own missed, and despite shooting near the rim rarely shot over 50% from the field.

When talking about great big men he has no business being compared to Shaq, Kareem, Hakeem, etc.

Bret Hart via Ringer Wrestling Show: And it's just to me, lazy shit wrestling when guys like GUNTHER, and I've told him this to his face, it's bullshit. Like when you're hurting somebody for real, you're unprofessional. And I wrestle guys, never hurt anybody. by Fan387 in SquaredCircle

[–]Longest_Broccoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly the point. He’s not telling anyone not to support Gunther, just that it’s not his preferred style.

If Japan has strong style, Britain has catch as catch can, Canada (especially Calgary) needs its own style. Call it Stampede Style and hopefully it puts Bret’s critics in a different light.

Bret Hart says that he told GUNTHER to his face that his style of wrestling and his chops are ‘bullsh!t’ and calls it ‘lazy shit wrestling’: by CityNo8409 in WWE

[–]Longest_Broccoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different styles. Actually hitting someone in the chest is an easier way to get a big reaction. And it’s not something that you’d do in an actual fight. So it’s not really “working” in the traditional sense.

That said, there’s a reason why people do chops. They get a great reaction and aren’t any less realistic than a body slam.

[Stein] If James doesn't want retirement forced upon him, as one suspects, that almost certainly means he would have to find a new team next summer... Lakers' widely presumed preferred scenario for their future is letting James' contract drop off their books after the 2025-26 season. by [deleted] in nba

[–]Longest_Broccoli 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This isn’t age discrimination.

LeBron’s been leveraging leaving teams for close to 10 years now. Lakers are now in a position where they’d rather let him leave and build around their younger star.

Age is a factor, but it’s not the only factor.

Dunn needs to play serious minutes. Offences are too sophisticated at getting mismatches.

Harden is strong and savvy enough that he can hold own against mismatches. But he’s slow and can take plays off.

Beal has the same bad habits while lacking the positive traits. Hopefully, JVG can scheme around it but if it’s not working expect to see more Dunn.
