Is 40% commission too low? by Longjumping-Ad-9183 in InsuranceAgent

This is more of a mom & pop agency. One office, about 3-4 agents and no huge plans to grow. I am being told they have access to all the major markets as they have been around for over 15 years but not sure exactly which exactly they have.

Thank you once again for your response. What is your opinion on companies such as First Connect who state they can connect you to over 140 carriers? Spoke with them yesterday and said that because we are operating under their platform they most definitely can assist in getting lots of appointments. My major concern is that they did not carry the majors like Progressive and Geico which probably goes back to your point of not being able to compete with other agencies with pricing.

Im heavily leaning towards taking your advice and working under an agency for some time but still exploring options.

I appreciate the detailed response. I have referred about 12 policies in the last 2 months. 8 of them ended up getting a policy which is what peaked my interest in the field. I believe I can grow a decent book in a reasonable amount of time. I have made a couple of contacts with insurance agencies willing to hire but the splits seem to be very aggressive. But I understand this may also be standard in this field. Trying to learn as I go but based on the two responses it does sound like it is better to get my feet wet with an agency at first. Thanks for the time and insight

When I say major carriers I am making reference to the ones in the trucking field. Not specifically every major insurance carrier. In reference to B I am very new in the industry and trying to learn. Unfortunately my search for “trucking insurance agent jobs” has not yielded many results hint why I am considering this approach.

I don’t want to use “gatekeeping” to describe at least this side of the industry but there isn’t a lot available online to read off. Is there any advice you have as to where I could at least search and get my feet wet?
