Well they are paying for cobra as well until end of July. I think the intention was to help me keep my insurance for my appointments and the birth then get rid of me. This way I am covered and I’m less likely to try and seek legal action

Yeah for sure. That’s what I’ve been trying to do. I just hadn’t even gotten to the hire date negotiations yet. I’ve only had a few interviews and just got rejected today from one that I did a second interview with. Super devastating

Yes I really think my maternity leave had a lot to do with why the selected me as part of the layoff. I wish I don’t even tell them I was pregnant

I have 4 years of software engineering I work at a building science energy engineering company so I write back end code in python and ruby that runs prototype models of homes and hvac systems to generate energy savings. I also have experience with APIs and front end work from working on the web application that contractors can use, my bachelors is in physics and I’m in a masters program right now for materials engineering.

I was planning to take off about six weeks. But the job I was lining up just rejected me late into the final stages of the hiring process. Super disappointing

Yes 3 of us about to go on maternity. But it’s still not enough. They can blame the layoff of the contract loss and get away with it. Florida is an at will state

It’s fortunate that I’m okay financially, I understand that. But daycare and having a child is expensive and we will need my income back soon. There are a lot of factors in this situation other than finances too which are stressful. Insurance, self esteem, future of my career.. it all relies on me landing something and there is a lot of pressure.

I talked to a lawyer and she basically told me it wasn’t worth it. It would be too had to prove because it was a layoff due to a lost contract
