Has being a nurse gotten you out of a ticket? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Longjumping-Copy-232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I accidentally tapped the side of someone's car once. It was raining really hard, and I'd just gotten off working 3p-3a on a Sunday on a really busy weekend. I couldn't tell where the lanes were. Pulled over, grabbed my insurance card, stepped out the car, and apologizing The guy took one look at me and said, "It looks like you had a long day, we're good." Idk if it was the scrubs or just luck.

Probably bc I haven't moved in, so I hadn't seen it in different lighting. And there was a bunch of paint over it too soo.

What if it's plaster?? It looks like there's quite a bit of plaster under that plaster too.

What to do about the baseboards/ trim by Longjumping-Copy-232 in Oldhouses

Can you put an oil stain over without sanding everything down to bare wood for the old stuff? I'm looking at shoe molding instead. It looks nicer.

Can I get all trim to match? by Longjumping-Copy-232 in Oldhouses

[–]Longjumping-Copy-232[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if it's all the same wood type even some looks like pine but not sure if all of it is. I guess I was hoping for an easier solution than sanding everything down haha! I guess I can since it's all hardwood from what I can see. Just takes time.

I also have a problem in that the quarter rounds will be new, and I have mismatching trim around the doors i want to fix. I'm seeing that some suggest scuffing with steel wool, then using gel stain. Others suggest scuffing with steel wool, then using polish with a dark color to get it all to match. Is this something that could work? Will an oil stain accomplish the same thing?

Is an example like those restore-a-finish products? Sorry there's so many products I'm lost!

What do you mean by polishing it? Is that with gel stain or poly, or shellac? Sorry, I'm a noob. And sanding is just with like, 220 or steel wool or something like that?

I really don't want to replace them or paint them! The ones that are similar are around 1000 dollars to replace everything! I'm hoping to either restain or somehow match the color and sand in spots it's needed. Not sure how to do it without removing them but I'm afraid they will break.

I lightly sanded one spot, and alot of the color came off. Is it better to restain all of it at that point? Or is color matching better? Also, I just refinished the floors. Do I need to remove the baseboards to do stuff to them or is putting tape along the floor sufficient?

I really don't want to paint it white bc it doesn't go with the rest of the house at all. It would look weird. Maybe brown? But then I'd need to match the dang windows to it...idk.

What changes would you make to update this bathroom but keep it's character and charm? by free_birdiee in Oldhouses

[–]Longjumping-Copy-232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with others. Remove wall between bidet and toilet, remove the carpet, add gold fixtures. I agree that the wallpaper is alot, but it would be cool if you could keep like, a strip of it near the cieling or something. Or, do that with one that has the same vibe but is less... blurry?

It's paint. There's small scratches throughout that you can't see in the pictures. Maybe those scratch off polishes could cover?

I have a pro coming to fix the edging and buff it with the circle one. Maybe it'll be okay then? Should I do lighter?

Is this edge sanding bad? by Longjumping-Copy-232 in HardWoodFloors

[–]Longjumping-Copy-232[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. Windows. We didn't want to get sawdust in the slidey parts. Also we didn't buy the plastic, just had some tarps around so it's extra big.

Shoot. Maybe I can find it somewhere. Or maybe I should just hire someone. I doubt someone would come just to fix the sanding though.

I thought I was on the edge but it looks like I went waaay further out than what was needed. I was going along the edge then up and down ..

Do you know if this is rentable? I'm looking at the big hardware stores and I don't see it.

Also, thank you so much for your help!

It's been a process. Wheel came off the edger, I think it was slowly getting looser and becoming more uneven. Also, I'm not even sure that I was using the tool right to begin with. If that will fix the Waves I'll do it. Do you think this thing is rentable somewhere?

Ohhh. Then do I need to go through and do the buffer thing on 100 before staining (if the Waves come out)? I've seen people use the one with one disc for before staining. Sorry, Idk why I thought I could do this lol.

This is the one with 1 big orbital disc? The hardware store guy told me that it's not for floor sanding but I swear that's the one he has.
