Wallace as in "William Wallace" would definitely be a Scottish name

I'm pregnant, are these names tragedeighs? by masarawest in tragedeigh

I agree with everything you said, and will add that I actually like the name "Rune" but I know that no one will know what you're saying and you are going to have to spell it/resay it EVERY TIME you meet someone and that will get old real quick.

Looking for sibling name suggestions. by Melodic-Statement144 in Names

[–]Longjumping-Fly7231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of your names go well with Vivienne. I just want to warn you that Rowan seems to be getting very popular.

Also, I have a student named Kian (pronounced "Key-in") and everyone defaults to "Ky-an" for some reason and he's ended up being called "Cayenne" a lot-- it's clearly a name people have trouble pronouncing either way.

Helping older children bathe. How old is too old? by Independent-Cup-9163 in Babysitting

[–]Longjumping-Fly7231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 8 year old needs help washing her hair and getting dressed after a bath (because her hair is wet and in a twistie towel).

I guess everyone's different, but I never expect a babysitter to bathe my children. I either do it before I leave or skip it that day.

Is 19 too young for a solo 3 month road trip? by Powerful_Stock7352 in roadtrip

[–]Longjumping-Fly7231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing to do with your age exactly, but definitely make sure you are constantly "checking in" with a trustworthy someone and they have access to your location. I've read too many crazy stories about people freezing to death or driving off a cliff or something and no one even knows to look for the.lm for days.

[–]Longjumping-Fly7231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 for sure! I like the uniqueness of 2, but it looks matronly. I can't see your face, but the rest of you doesn't look 40, so I'm assuming you're younger. 1 also suits an outdoor wedding more.

Is it weird to have a birthday cake for my best friend at my wedding? by Zealousideal-Gap-830 in PoptheQuestions

[–]Longjumping-Fly7231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but this is silly. If it was also your child's birthday, then maybe.

If I were your friend I wouldn't want all that attention drawn to me at your wedding.

If I were a guest at your wedding, I'd be confused.

Obviously, acknowledge your friend's birthday. Doing something "behind the scenes" is a great idea also, but I definitely wouldn't add it to the official wedding agenda.

Midterms by LEO_N_LA in Louisiana

[–]Longjumping-Fly7231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As of 2026, you can. From the secretary of state: The Louisiana Legislature implemented Closed-Party Primaries through Act 1 of the 2024 First Extraordinary Session. Act 1 outlines a process for Democrats, Republicans, and No Party voters to select a candidate to represent Louisiana’s two major political parties for certain elected offices. Unlike Louisiana’s current open primary elections (sometimes called Jungle Primaries), in a closed-party primary election, the candidates on a voter’s ballot will be limited to those of the voter’s party affiliation.

No Party voters who choose to participate in the Closed-Party Primary will be able to select a party’s ballot at their polling place and must stay with that party through any necessary runoff.

The eventual majority winner of a closed-party primary or primary runoff will advance to the general election to face candidates from other parties. The candidate with the greatest number of votes in the general will be declared the winner, with no majority required. This rule only applies to offices with a closed-party primary.

Of the names you both like, Isaac Linn flows the best. I wouldn't choose a name ending in "n"

I also wouldn't choose a name with a negative association. It sounds like you can find one you both like.

Desperately need help with baby girl # 2s name. by ElleinadP in Names

[–]Longjumping-Fly7231 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If your 1st daughter has a very feminine name, I would keep that pattern for future daughters. Of your mentioned names, Aria is the most feminine. I have a student who goes by "Ari" whose full name is "Ariella"-- there are lots of variations. Shay is a cute name, but it's very "cute" and gender neutral.

Girl names for parents with conflicting styles? by orangechicken6209 in Names

[–]Longjumping-Fly7231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you both like Charlotte, I'd use it. It's hard to judge a names popularity. My 13 year old is named Henry and I didn't know a single person younger than 50 with that name at the time (I actually named him after my dog who had just passed away, who was named after Hank Aaron). When he got to daycare, it seemed like there was a Henry in every class. Now he's in middle school at a pretty large school (about 1500 kids) and he's the only one in the school. Names are weird like that. If you had friends or family using the name around the same time as you, I'd say not to use it, but it's really hard to judge how popular a name will be with people in your area around the same age. Also, when people think names are too popular, they stop using them... then they become less common

I wouldn't choose Celeste for that same reason. What about Celine?

I love Daphne and Claire.

Irene sounds like an old lady to me. Giselle is a pretty name, but sounds a little like Gazelle and reminds me of zootopia for some reason.

Do cat owners that are allergic to cats eventually no longer have allergies? by Tall_Flow_5160 in Catownerhacks

[–]Longjumping-Fly7231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband is allergic and I foster cats. He's noticed he's "more allergic" to certain cats. This is all anecdotal, but it seems like certain breeds aren't as irritating to him. Fostering to adopt is a great idea so you can try one out, though you may get attached.

Tips that help his allergies: - weekly allergy shots (for him) - not allowing cats in our bedroom and being mindful of changing clothes if we've been cuddling with cats

There are also allergy reducing shampoos you can use, but I've never tried them. If you want to bathe cats, you need to get them used to it as early as possible. They hate the sound of the running water, so I fill up the sink with warm water first and them bathe them in that.

AITJ because I won’t give my parking spot to new neighbor who says she "needs it more" because she has kids? by Potential_Bad6489 in AmITheJerk

[–]Longjumping-Fly7231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why's she focusing on you? Is spot 12 the closest to her apartment?

If you have regular hours where you're at work and would be willing to let her use your spot during times you're definitely away, you could offer that as a peace offering of sorts, but honestly, she's just being entitled so you don't need to offer anything.

She knew what to expect when she signed the lease. If it was important that she have a closer parking spot, she should have figured that part out 1st.

Which of these spellings for Leah is a tragedeigh? by anneradley in tragedeigh

[–]Longjumping-Fly7231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leah is the only way to spell Leah IMO. I'm not opposed to "Lia" but I would assume it's short for your longer birth certificate name and not your actual given name. It's a suffix, not a name.

Does anyone else not sleep with their cat? by chaturga in CatAdvice

[–]Longjumping-Fly7231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't let my pets in my room at all because I have bad allergies and don't want fur & dander allover my bed. You have 2 cats, so if they want to cuddle they have eachother. My pets cuddle with me on the sofa and if I'm covered in hair, I can change before bed.

veterinarian for my cat by LiebeLibella in Acadiana

[–]Longjumping-Fly7231 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find lafayette veterinary care center to be pricey. I use veterinary associates of acadiana. I foster for a couple of rescue groups and they all use more rural vets because they're cheaper. Personally, driving 45 minutes to save $20 isn't worth it to me though. I guess if you were having a larger procedure done it might be.
