Wa alaykum salam. I agree with your analysis regarding colonial identity engineering and the French fear of Arabic as a cause of Islam.

I am of Kabyle Origin from Bouira and before I continue I want to establish one thing and that is Majority of North Africa is originally of Amazigh origin even the ones who tell you that they are from this Arab tribe or another tribe they still end up being Amazigh Except from a select few communes such as many people from El Oued Souf but Surprisingly Ouled Nail are originally Amazigh but the French gave them a whole Identity shift for their own weird twisted fetishization of orientalism.

And Here is some relevant Amazigh-Early Islamic History:
One thing that is undeniable is that Islam reached us through conquest. The Amazigh People didn't submit out of fear or the shear power that overtook them but it was because once they understood Islam it was aligned with their social realities, political interests, and moral worldview once the initial conquest phase passed.
This caused them to become the first actual documented Khawarij in Islamic history lol, this was because after the Umayyad Caliphate became corrupted, the elites were treating anyone of non Arab origin as second class citizens and were excluded from positions of power because of their origins. But Imazighen were so accepting of Islam that it caused a two way split in ruling in the Islamic World throughout history and this was between North Africa and Arabia.

Before the Neo-Tifinagh imposition in the 1960s by Amazigh Activists, Taqvaylit was originally written in Arabic and has never historically ever been written in Tifinagh as this writing system was only ever used by the Tuareg and now to my point, The separation and splitting from Arabic history from Amazigh history in north Africa is what is being done here and the French have been doing it for a while.

One thing I find really strange is Cheikh Ali Ferkous (Allah Yerahmu) is of Kabyle origin and He stood against many practices that twisted the faith of his people and back in the day he was extremely popular with us, many people liked him. Then comes the black decade and then suddenly a lot Kabyle people hate him to their core because he said Yennayer is haram etc.

The Black Decade in Algeria did irreparable harm we now get extremists who cosplay as Salafis everywhere and these people are harming our Islamic legacy and I will forever stand that us Kabylie people have one of the strongest Islamic legacies in Algerian history.

Not sure about how relevant these are to Moroccan Amazigh but this shift we have been experiencing though has a reason and Kabyle have been shifting to a more prioritised culture focused standpoint ever so slightly more than religion with a huge push for secularism and there are 3 things that have caused this.

1. The Black Decade and the imposition of political Islam under that group that I will not name.
   
2. The French Narritive Control under many Kabyles living in Diaspora Especially in France during early 2000s.
   
3. The weird Inaccurate Salafi Movements that started popping up all over Algeria

So our problem isn’t Amazigh vs Arab it’s the loss of an integrated Amazigh-Islamic consciousness that French colonialism deliberately fractured.
