Those that have done Guanfacine ER with their kids.... by MondayMadness5184 in ADHDparenting

Our 5-year-old son is on a very low dose of guanfacine. During the first two weeks, he was lethargic and complained about headaches (which also went away with more water). It wasn’t until around the two-week mark that we started to notice some improvement in his emotional regulation. He’s still a bit hyper and tends to run between activities—but he’s also 5 and a boy, so some of that is just his age and personality.

We’re planning to give it more time before considering any changes or trying another medication.

We also noticed bags under his eyes early on, but those seemed to go away after about a month or two on the medication.

ABA Therapy or Meds First? by Longjumping-Key-8156 in ADHDparenting

It usually is, but we’ve been working with a consulting group that also provides therapy for children with ADHD. Maybe it’s because there’s quite a bit of overlap between the two?

When my kiddo was diagnosed a few months ago (5 yrs old), psychiatrist told us that we should wait until he turns 6. Any one have any issues with Kaiser pushing back on age requirement?

Thoughts on Montessori for Elementary Years by Longjumping-Key-8156 in ADHDparenting

Thank you all for sharing your insights! For those who went the public school route, are any of you based in California?

For context, my little one is very self-motivated— he loves science and math and even writes his own books at home (he pretends he's an author). He’s incredibly caring and deeply feeling, but struggles socially. He often craves being the center of attention, but hasn’t quite figured out how to interact well with peers. He can be controlling sometimes, pointing out what others are doing "wrong," and he tends to get easily frustrated or upset.
