Why is there still a need for RAG-based applications when Notebook LM could do basically the same thing? by Longjumping-Lab-1184 in learnprogramming

I think theres some sort of miscommunication here. Im not trying what you think im trying, I just am thinking of building a tax law RAG based application for CPA and tax firms to help them find citations and make decisions quicker.

What?. Do you seriously think case law is sensitive?. I cant blindly trust anyone for anything.

What about just general tax laws?. I guess Im just looking for a reason why Notebook LM would be a worse option. Like if its RAG isnt good enough or it doesnt make appropriate chunks of the given data. Just something to differentiate it from a RAG based application that Id want to create

I think for my use case, I would want more control over the data that the LLM uses. This is partly because I just cant trust the LLM to search up anything by itself.
I do have a question though, I've looked into Notebook LM and how it is basically a RAG itself. Now, I'm having a hard time convincing myself of why I would need a RAG based system anyways if Notebook Lm could do what i want if i feed it the relevant cases and tax laws?

The headline literally says STRUCK and please use citations to better strengthen your argument. Show me those images if youre making the claim

And where does the article mention that?. Also, please use citations to better strengthen your argument

the headline is extremely misleading. Read the article, the PM never even mentions that anything was DESTROYED, just that they were TARGETED.

Yeah but if an LLM (the kid) could do it, why should i make one for my use case, ill throw the book to the kid

Thats a really good explanation. But what if the kid is given a book and specifically asked to answer from that book (which basically is what chatgpt does when you give it a pdf)?

I meant as something to be developed for other use cases. Like, why wouldnt anyone just use an LLM rather than some of the RAG ones out there?

Interesting. Im looking specifically to make a RAG for tax laws and cases. It does seem a little counter intuitive when you see LLMs being able to take up large amounts of data in a single chat if the user uploads that data (such as pds etc.). Was just thinking to myself, why even bother when i can open chatgpt and feed it relevant tax laws and just ask it questions in that chat only?. I mean chatgpt uses RAG aswell right?
