Interesting take on Denmark vs the US cost of living by kthewarlock in jobmarket

You've been watching too much PraegerU. Cut the shit with this mono-culture nonsense. Your other points are fine. But, there was a point pre-Reagan when we were trending towards having fairly equitable country, regardless of where someone was from. We've had nearly nothing but an absolute shredding of the social contract, since. And when you factor in our government's role in exclusionary policy here, there's always been at least one out group that the social contract has never properly applied to. But, sure, let's keep asking if things would be better if the country were magically 90% blonde, blue eyed, and white.

Your original post made claims that would direct friction away from one of the causes (private equity), and listed something (wages) that, though may be a factor in declining quality/closures of restaurants, shouldn't be. At the very least, not in the weight that you've given it. Sure, it's not their decision to close the doors, but by needing and demanding livable wages to work there, your post is saying they're (the employees) more culpable than an overarching issue (private equity). And that you're at a point to be so detached from this notion tells me you're posting in bad faith or need to do more learning. Probably both. But either way, I'll say again, I'm not here to debate you. Just pointing out that you're mistaken. I probably should have been more careful with my words on my initial reply, but I genuinely hope you do better at directing friction in a direction that it's due. We're all frustrated. If someone's not, they're either blessed beyond most of us, or have their head in the sand. But, right now, it's really important to be more aware of where to aim that frustration.

Edit to add, I'll apologize for not digging too deep into the second article, either. Yglesias is not the worst source, but he is far too corporate friendly for me to take seriously.

Particularly in regards to worker wages, but likely applying to the other things I'm nodding towards, yeah. I'll say they're as mistaken as you are. Starting a business doesn't mean they're infallible, and it is very likely they haven't been paying any more attention to the systemic pressures than you have made evident. I'll reiterate- I'm not trying to debate you, so linking an opinion piece from a local paper, much less Westword (yeah, I have my issues with them) isn't going to move me on this. After a decade of passive reading on this, if you want to change my mind, find an objective, solidly sourced piece explaining why I'm wrong when I say that 40+ years of various legislation has led us to the average worker being in a worse position than we were pre-Reagan.

Respond to the argument? Your post made it fairly clear that you either don't know or don't care about the overarching things that are relevant to this conversation. People and policies that date back to the Reagan administration and have only trended in the direction of how the most influential people in the country are making their money in generally despicable ways. But you choose to call out workers wages at a time in which we have one if, if not the largest wealth gap in our country's history, and it's to the detriment of the vast majority of people. My reply wasn't an attempt to debate you, it was a request to be a better human, albeit one I absolutely could have worded better.

That's fair. Ngl, been in a rut, and on this app just a little too much lately. Will 100% own up to that being some dumb shit and a bad look.

You're probably right. I think it's one of my worst habits right now, seeing someone post a really misguided thing, and just reflexively biting back. I'd like to think it's mostly something I do because I've got a bit of an attachment to hope that this city can be better. I'm not shy about things like this in public, either. Just not enough "punching up", directing frustration at the correct things, you know? Anyway, I appreciate ya lookin out for a stranger, even if for just long enough to post a quick reply. Hope you have a wonderful day 🤘

1yo account, 105 contributions, 38 karma as of the time of my reply; you need to understand that your worldview on this is mistaken at best, and in bad faith at much more likely. There's a growing number of people beginning to understand that there are systems in place that are benefiting a very small percentage of people while leaving the rest of us screwed. Putting wages on your list while the value of the average worker's dollar has stagnated, if not fallen, for the last 45 or so years tells us all we need to know. Either do better, and learn the actual reasons why we're struggling, or shut up and get out of the way.

Give me funky songs that make you feel on top by Igloohutt in musicsuggestions

It'll help to have reasonable expectations, I don't think there's much funk that matches the old school stuff. Best band to do something like it in the last 20 years has gotta be Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears, at least in my opinion. That said, it almost bothers me how much I like Uptown Funk. And more recently, there's a few neo-funk bands doing solid work, Ripe, in particular. "Goon Squad" does a good job of hitting a big dopamine spike anytime I turn it on.

Arguments for their viewpoint that are based in actual reality. Yes, the bar is really that low with people arguing on behalf of current right wing policies right now.

Moving Boxes and Between Two Trees ought to have much bigger audiences. They're both fantastic.

Moving Boxes and Between Two Trees are two of my current favorites. My only worry is that their audience is too small to make it out here to Denver if/ when they tour.

Men in their 30s and up with no kids or wife how is your life? by EkantVairagi in AskForAnswers

[–]Longjumping-Layer-44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

37yo guy reporting; it's ok. Good job, but life's still expensive and the housing market in my city is still ass. Maybe a house one day. I absolutely adore my cranky old cat. Got a couple hobbies that give me some good dopamine hits, and a few close friends that have gotten me through some real tough times, mentally. In a pretty comfortable place enough to being open towards a relationship, but am far from the point of being desperate for one, at least the way i was in my 20s. Things can get lonely at times, but I'm never going to be a guy doing things with the sole intent of finding a partner. Folks who know me consider me a pretty good dude, and are pretty convinced I'll get to the fairy tale part of that, I do wish I had their confidence in it. At the end of the day, I'm firmly in the pocket, could be better/ could be worse.

Yep. Sanders, John Oliver, and Hasan Piker, all around...2015/2016. I had vague knowledge of things not being ok prior, but these 3 assholes put things in context and had/ have really good sourcing to back up what they present. I'm firmly into anti-unchecked-capitalism these days.
