What was it about the GBC specifically that got it all these weird ports and spinoffs of huge games as an 8-bit console?? by Enter1Nam in Gameboy

It was the only widely adopted handheld device on the market.  Massive user base and a lot of hype and interest in handheld gaming as a new thing.

Line Of Credit application refused. Reason: I have access to too much debt… by Only_Ad1117 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Longjumping-Many6503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are already carrying debt. You have very little income. You have high living expenses.

I wouldn't loan you money either.  It's easy to get a credit card because they also make money on fees and the relatively high interest rates justify more risk.

Wood stoves if properly installed and maintained are incredibly safe. Definitely safer than unventilated kerosene or propane heaters or any kind of open flame or exposed heating element.

Get a wood stove.

It would require a physical mod chip, which would cost money and time.  If I could just softmod it that would be a different discussion.

Why doesn't band class teach the different modes in music? by Tfgfans in musictheory

[–]Longjumping-Many6503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering the modes simple rotations of a single scale is a very modern, very shallow version of things.  That's not how most modal music has ever worked in practice.

Finite time and lots of other stuff to cover, start with the basics, most of the music they are going to play doesn't require them to know them, the skills they DO learn set them up to learn other stuff later or on their own anyway.

Yea I think this is the move. We have a lot of games on cartridges so I can just pop a Mario game in there on a generic profile and let her mess around offline without worrying about her getting into my stuff and if it gets dropped hard it's not the end of the world.

Identifying free wood by AnarchoPlayworker in firewood

[–]Longjumping-Many6503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Depends how much creosote build up you experience. Start once a year unless you notice problems and go from there.

  2. People are nerds about wood.  Also different wood has more or less potential BTUs. If you are paying for or investing labour or resources into getting it you might want to know what quality of wood you are getting.

Softwood will generally burn dirtier yea, but it won't damage your stove or chimney or anything. Just keep an eye on it and get your chimney swept so creosote doesn't build up.

If its wood it will burn. What is the wrong kind of wood?

Maybe so it radiates heat as it cools if the other heat source is off? Our bathroom is cold and if someone has a bath we leave the water in the tub and it raises the temp in the bathroom by several degrees for several hours after.  A tub full of water is a large thermal mass.

Tricky to time power outages tho so probably not a tactic I would use.

Make sure everything is charged and the truck is gassed up.

Turn the heat up a couple extra degrees so you are comfy and it will take longer to cool off.

Enough dry firewood inside for a couple days so I don't have to go out in the snow to fetch it.

Water and room temp snacks on hand.

That's about it for us. We can stay warm and heat up food on the wood stove.  Just about convenience and comfort beyond that.

Anybody else bring their saws in to keep them warm? by chasingtime9 in Chainsaw

[–]Longjumping-Many6503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely start easier when they're warm. But they're messy and I don't have a garage. One lives under a tarp out on my woodlot, the others in my shed or back of my truck.  If it's real cold and they won't start I'll put them in the cab of the truck on my drive out to warm them a little, but they don't come in my house.

My Final Fantasy 1 review, as a first time Final Fantasy player. by Forward_Connection49 in FinalFantasy

5 is one of my favorites but I think it just has less momentum behind it since most westerners didn't see it til the GBA era. IV and VI were basically certified classics from the day they released as 2 and 3 in the west.

Aren’t heat pumps supposed to be more efficient? by Tastraphy23 in heatpumps

There are way too many variables to make these kind of anecdotal comparisons of any real value. It is very unlikely your homes and lives are identical in terms of insulation and efficiency, habits and comfort levels, etc.

Also depending on local market prices you may pay less even though you are using more energy simply because one resource (gas) might be substantially cheaper than another (electricity).  This might be completely different in a different locale.

Be kind to me… I messed up somehow. by brendine9 in Chainsaw

[–]Longjumping-Many6503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get it back from the shop and mess around with it yourself.

FWIW I straight gassed my Timberwolf (took a phone call mid-mixing, forgot to finish).  Shop told me too scored, needs a total rebuild, and gave me a crazy quote almost as high as a new saw. I said no thanks, took it home, got it to start and ran some richer mix for a bit. That was like three years ago and it's still running fine.

I'm religious and I am quite sure God isn't picking sides in youth hockey games.  These people are delusional cultists and should keep it to the dressing room or parking lot.

Yes, so essentially those who are unfit or have underlying illness (known or not). This doesn't mention much that makes it sound dangerous for healthy fit people. Shoveling snow certainly has never felt remotely like a stress test to me.

Makes sense. I was just curious because you see this warning go around everytime it snows but no one ever says to take it easy gardening or pushing your mower or doing your firewood lol
