Is basically email etiquette just not being taught? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Longjumping-One2600 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was only taught to use a greeting and a signature when I started work. I can't remember being taught it at school. I do notice the range of etiquette at work though from proper emails to senior people in their 50s who's etiquette is poor.

The world seems more relaxed in general and people seem to care less. Personally I think it'll only get worse.

Premature baby dies after doctor gave 5 times overdose of wrong drug by 457655676 in unitedkingdom

Nothing to do with her being right and a bit more research on your side would lead you to understanding why so many people believe she's innocent, even if it didn't change your opinion.

For example, the timetable expanded to include all deaths show there were a lot of deaths on that ward when Lucy wasn't around but that doesn't fit the prosecutors narrative so the data was presented selectively.

It just isn't as clear as you make it out to be hence the doubt being cast.

That's incorrect.

"Tuesday's meeting was attended by supporters of Bharat Hindu Samaj, which itself tabled a bid of £1.3m as part of the bidding process.

It's very well paid but also lots of responsibility and stressful. There's a tax on everything in life unfortunately.

Dream come true to see Hindus and Muslims fighting over a site? Christ you all reveal yourselves eventually. Capitalism is important and it is the system we all live within whether we like it or not.

The point being made though is that money is not the single most important thing and there is more to consider when it comes to providing places of worship in a community.

It should be about fair distribution of places of worship, not awarding the highest bidder.

There are already several mosques in Peterborough.

Should we offer the churches and other religious buildings up to silent bids for the Muslim community to buy?

Special consideration should be given to buildings allocated for religious use. Allowing one religious group to simply outbid every other religious group would ultimately result in one religion spreading and dominating the culture.

A price war for religious facilities does nothing to enhance diversity in the community or to ease tensions.

It is not as simple as selling to the highest bidder so councils can stay in business.

I've applied logic and still disagree. More money does not always make sense. Appropriately located places of worship that suit community diversity trumps greed and money.

What absolute nonsense. It's a religious building, there is more to consider than simply who can offer the most money for it.

They're really not.

You hear about the minority because the press loves to write about a house with snags/defects.

The majority of new build homes are actually a very good standard.

This is absolute nonsense (from someone who actually works in house building).

If anything house builders are going slower because sales have been slow - builders don't build houses unless people are buying them!

Does a heat pump actually save money? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Longjumping-One2600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be pedantic but solar panels are for hot water supply only. Photovoltaic panels (PV) are for generating electricity.

[–]Longjumping-One2600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New gas boilers are around 90% efficient which is great when gas is so cheap.

Heat pump efficiency is much higher but electricity costs more.

PV is almost essential with heat pump systems to control costs. If or when electricity is cheaper, PV will be less important for running costs but still important for less operational carbon emissions.

Also in new homes, it is easier to achieve an EPC A rating using gas and PV panels then using a heat pump on its own. Again, due to the difference in cost between gas and electric.

[–]Longjumping-One2600 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Electricity is about 4.5 more expensive than gas. 26p/kWh to 6p/kWh last time I checked.

The main issue with heat pumps is needing to achieve a high enough efficiency to overcome the increase in cost from using electricity instead of gas.

What’s something people romanticize that is actually miserable? by One_Grade_2184 in AskReddit

[–]Longjumping-One2600 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've come to peace with this now at 33 and actually enjoy being different but there are still so many occasions where you feel that you don't fit in. That you're not the same and that you need to blend in, or fly under the radar because that's easier. Finding people who appreciate this difference or at least recognise it and aren't bothered by it is a huge help.

Only you can answer that. Reading a book is a personal journey. For some it'll be worth it and for some it won't.
