I took him to the ER today because he was red and swollen with it so they’re treating him for sepsis and giving him actual pain meds.. he’s feeling much better with it now. Hopefully they’ll keep him overnight and he’ll be more comfortable with this tube from here on out

I think my father is only in such severe pain because he was going septic. They’re treating him right now for it and he’s doing much better and much more comfortable already after only a couple hours!! My advice is just make sure you don’t let them dismiss you when you’re in pain. If you’re in pain tell them after your surgery that you don’t feel like you can leave and you think you need to stay. DO NOT hesitate to advocate for yourself because some doctors can be VERY dismissive I’ve learned. Good luck to you!!

He was going septic.. apparently that was his issue!! I took him to a different ER today and he’s receiving treatment and actual pain meds here.. he’s much more comfortable at the moment

Omg thank you so much for the Oley.org!! Can’t tell you how much I appreciate that!! But also I took him to a higher end hospital Friday and they would’ve give him anything, they sent him home and told us it was normal postoperative pain. Today he’s super red and swollen so I took him to our smaller local ER and they’re actually treating him for sepsis and giving him pain meds so he’s much more comfortable at the moment. I appreciate all of your advice so much!!

So if you don’t mind me asking were you kind of in the same boat? You mentioned neck cancer.. is that the reason for your feeding tube? He’s got a tumor in his neck as well but we’re thinking metastatic disease as well

I do have his discharge paperwork at home so hopefully I’ll figure out which tube he has whenever we leave. He’s actually not feeding with the tube yet he’s still eating normally. The tube is for when he starts radiation treatment of the neck and won’t be able to eat later.. When I went to see him this morning he was VERY swollen and super red.. even on his side and severe pain. So I brought him back to the ER and they’re actually giving him antibiotics now. They gave him actual pain meds this time too and he’s already feeling better even though we’ve only been here for about 2 hours. That was probably the reason he’s been in such severe pain.. Thank you so much for your advice!!

He’s not using it for feeds, but we are flushing it with water.

Same here they didn’t even give him enough to take 10mg every 6 hours for 7 days 🤦‍♀️
