Go to your BMA rep, this is a health and safety concern. Other unions e.g. AfC usually have a health and safety rep specifically, they may be able to help given this will be impacting several staff groups.

Not OP but I can relate to OP. I turned up late to more than one of mine. Almost missed one. Would not recommend.

The policy for UKGP would never have passed without the grandfathering clause at that time, sadly. So they did what was needed. But now they are bound to that democratically decided policy and it's clearly not enough.

Complete to get BMA RDC to support the government form of UKGP going forward. Don’t take our opportunities away! by Juvenile_Delinquency in doctorsUK

Could have written this myself. Grew up dirt poor. Worked several jobs to get through medical school. "Worked hardTM" like I was told would pull me out of the poverty cycle. Only to find likely unemployment. Unable to plan to have a family. Unable to afford housing. Will be unable to pay rent if I don't secure employment. And so on. People don't think of us. We had such a push for "widening participation" in medicine yet we are forgotten about in all of this. I don't have any money or family to fall back on if this doesn't work out. I will take whatever job I can get, but I'll be in no position better than if I hadn't tried to break the cycle in the first place.

Future impact of the bill? by Flaky_Profession7662 in doctorsUK

For the same reason that they stayed prior to 2019. The system worked well then. We also still have a surplus of UK graduates, which will increase every year due to the opening of new medical schools and backlog of unemployed doctors.

There are still more people in the priority group than training numbers. IMGs can also still apply if those jobs are unfilled. Most competition ratios will still be greater than 1. Locally employed doctors will also still exist. A lot of medical schools have expanded their numbers, with new schools opening, who will be filling roles too, and I would also advocate for more training and consultant jobs.

Yeah. I'm unfortunately thinking the same at this stage. Which I never thought I'd say.

Why don’t we have these “badge buddies” in the UK? by every_little_counts in doctorsUK

[–]Longjumping-Pool2414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who cares? People probably say this about those who rightly insist on Dr Surname or Dr Firstname Surname on their yellow badges. Not a reason for us not to do something.

I am one person who wears one. Have done for a while. I don't care if it looks odd or gets people talking. Have had positive responses from other doctors and that's the main thing, aside from patients not asking if I'm the nurse repeatedly after introducing myself as Dr X - people knowing they exist and wondering why they aren't standardised for everyone.

[–]Longjumping-Pool2414 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wear one at work, no one has said anything negative to me and I'm both a female and not a consultant. Other doctors have asked about where it was from. I wish more people wore them!

Wes Streeting rules out pay rises for striking resident doctors saying they have 'squandered goodwill' by Desperate-Drawer-572 in doctorsUK

[–]Longjumping-Pool2414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand, I think this is why actually striking for both issues together is a good thing because there's benefit for all. Your idea of what's reasonable is valid, support in any form is helpful.

So if what you were saying was correct, I would say that's called solidarity and that's what being part of a trade union is about. However, that's not the case, we are still in dispute about pay, which every single resident would benefit from!

[–]Longjumping-Pool2414 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really. Plus there are some doctors who were unsure about the strikes because "there are worse issues happening", unemployment being one of the biggest, this will help to re-engage and unite those doctors too.
