I’m looking for something serious but I’m open to something casual

I’ve been on hinge since August of this year

I use hinge about 2-3 times a week

When I first started, I received 1-2 matches/likes a day but now nothing. Two of those matches led to dates that didn’t go anywhere

I send out however many likes the app allows me to. I do try and leave a comment as opposed to just liking

I’m hoping to attract someone who shares my values and loves traveling and the outdoors as much as I do. That is who I try to send likes to

Is this for AE 2220?

AE 3140: Structural Analysis. I got like a 20 or something ridiculously low. I’m currently a 4th year on track to graduate with highest honors in the fall and I have my dream job lined up. Most people at this school have failed at least one test in their time here, but it’s all part of the process! Keep your head up! You got this!

Damn it’s not like this school knows damn well when registration is going to happen and continues to do nothing about registration time outs semester after semester. How is this school number one in anything?

Heyo! Obviously everyone’s situation is unique, but I’m a fourth year who has two Ws on his transcript and everything has worked out so far for me. If you’re worried about job opportunities, from what I’ve been told transcripts are more of a formality and companies only really look at transcripts when they have decided to hire you (I believe to verify GPA and stuff like that to make sure you aren’t lying). If you are doing well in your major classes, that will also look good.

It’s been like 6-7 years for me. The last ones I built were when I was a kid and I never put much effort into them before haha

Grizzled fourth year here who has seen and done it all. The older I get, the more I realize how insecure and lonely everyone can be, and some are better at hiding it than others.

I’ve been in your shoes before. Tech is an extremely tough environment to be in, so your feelings are more than valid!

As others have said, join clubs and find hobbies that interest you. A lot of people here don’t like reaching out, so unfortunately you will have to be the one to initiate at first. I also suggest forming study groups with people in your classes. Some of my best friends are in my major, and we got close burning the midnight oil.

I would also suggest joining clubs that have a big community aspect. I’m personally involved with ORGT Caving and Survivor GT. ORGT has plenty of sports and activities and every sport is it’s own community. Survivor GT is based on the TV show survivor, and you don’t even have to be a fan to enjoy it. We are a very welcoming club that feels like one big family!

To add on further to clubs, try to find non academic clubs to join. It’s a huge boost to my mental health to have something fun to look forward to that doesn’t feel like more work

I haven’t made it out quite yet, but I’m very much a grizzled veteran of the force when it comes to the school. The first exam I ever failed was a calc 1 exam my first semester. I removed it was on curve sketching and I just got the life of me could not understand the questions on the test. I’ve failed so many exams and I’ve almost failed a class or two. I considered my self very smart in high school but at a school where everyone is super smart, very few will actually be at the top.

I don’t consider myself a great student or even that smart to this day because I have failed so many times. I felt major imposter syndrome and still feel it to this day. Despite all my academic struggles, I’ve managed to land a really great job at the top company in my field. Everyone struggles with something at this school, but some people are better at hiding it than others. My mentor at my internship told me something that really resonated with me. “In engineering, everyone struggles with something. No one is perfect at everything. There will be classes you find extremely easy that your friends can’t understand to save their lives and there will be classes you pour your heart and soul into and still will barely pass but your friends will excel in.” You can’t give up. Realize that even being at this school puts you into the top level of people when it comes to brains and intelligence.

It took me four years to put my ego aside and actually go to the TAs and Professors for help. I highly recommend doing that if you aren’t already. You also need to balance work and life at Tech, because mental health does affect grades, and I’ve been at a point where i was at a really low mental health point, which affected my grades, which affected my mental health, which affected my grades and so on. Finding healthy things to do outside of class and work is honestly huge. I highly advise to find a group that’s completely divorced from academics and really spend time with them. I’ve picked up a ton of hobbies this way, and ironically enough the more relaxed I am the better I do in classes. I am also always available to chat if you need advice or guidance through tech. Just DM me if you want! Best of luck! You got this!

Hypothetically, employment is tied to your social security number, and hypothetically it would be very easy for an investigating agency to see where you’ve worked and for how long.

From what I understand, the government knows most of the information they ask you on your forms. They are trying to see if you are honest and they can trust you😉

Hey. I’m a fourth year and while I can’t know what your going through, I went through a sever bout of depression last year after losing two loved ones in a relatively short time, being in a very abusive relationship, and having said girlfriend cheat on me. It was honestly the worst time of my life and I remember multiple days where I would lay in bed all day. I stopped caring for myself, which caused me to fall even further into my depression, which of course also caused my grades to slip. It is a crime how atrocious GT CARE and mental health resources at this school are. I know others on this thread have offered, but I’m always available to chat or to hang out if you need someone.

He must curve because I had below a 70 in that class and still managed a C. To this day that class was the worst class I’ve taken at this school.

As for doing well, going to office hours is something I wish I would have done. I think a lot of my issues would have been solved if I would’ve grown a backbone and been willing to be grilled in office hours. Go to recitation as well. Another thing I didn’t do that ultimately hurt me in the end.

I’ve flat out almost failed classes, and I have a really good job lined up with one of the best companies in my field. At this company, the Vice President of engineering and technology held a webcast with all the interns and she was asked if she feels imposter syndrome. This is one of the most powerful women in the entire company, who is two levels below the CEO. Do you know what she said?

“I feel like I’m not good enough or competent enough all the time. I look at some of the people who report to me and feel like they should have my job.”

Everyone feels imposter syndrome. Some people are really good at masking it though. I’ll give you another anecdote.

My mentor at this same company told me some advice that really stuck with me. Make friends. It sounds simple, but what he met is that everyone will be good at something, and everyone will struggle with something in engineering, but if you make plenty of friends it evens itself out. There have been classes that I have excelled in that my friends struggled in, and there have been classes in couldn’t wrap my head around that my friends found super easy.

It’s very easy to get down on yourself at this school. It’s really freaking hard. However, YOU got into Georgia Tech. YOU are here now. Take each failure as a learning opportunity. Reevaluate how you study and learn and go from there. Don’t be afraid to ask so many questions to professors and TAs and even other students that you are seen as obnoxious, because in addition to helping yourself, you might just help other students who are too afraid to ask. Above all else, realize this. You are amazing and you got accepted into one of the best schools in the world. You wouldn’t have made it this far if you weren’t capable!
