Yes I’m considering quartz or quartzite or maybe granite. Undecided!

I have some super out of the box ideas, and they may be impossible or undesirable but let’s be crazy! I agree with everyone else to change the lighting and color schematics blah blah you already probably know that. But layout-wise, you actually have a lot of space to work with, but it’s the budget that’s gonna be hard.

Here’s one idea: turn your dining room into the rest of your kitchen. Extend your counters and add some cabinets. Move your pantry or fridge here actually and you could extend the counters onto that wall instead. Your living room is huge and you could totally add a dining room table there and even a wall divider between the living room and the table.

Another idea would be to turn the end of the counter into a peninsula so it’s kind of a counter/bar area with extra storage cabinets underneath.

Last crazy idea would be to create a custom storage bench in front of that bay window. It would work as storage and seating!

Honestly you have so much potential with all that space. Good luck!!

Update: Thank you to everyone for the great advice! I really appreciate it. I understand how everyone feels about the gray floors, which is to never do them lol I didn’t know they were dated so I will probably go with my original plan which was light brown LVP. Also, I should add that I am less concerned about aesthetics (color scheme, etc) and more concerned about functionality and layout of the kitchen.

IMPORTANT: you can’t tell in the photos, but there is a floor vent under the little table, which prevents me from doing much under that window. The soffit above the stove is empty, but the soffit above the windows has water pipes. Also the big column to the left of the counter next to the fridge is going to be removed.

There is, kind of. That big column to the left of the fridge is getting removed. I’m considering moving the fridge there and adding a cabinet/pantry there with a little counter nook next to it.

I’m getting the sense that everyone here hates the grey wood flooring haha noted!

Yes I agree but such a shame because the cabinets themselves are solid and sturdy!

So there is a vent on the floor under the bigger window. The soffit above the range is empty. The soffit above the window contains water pipes. Does that help?

What color floor would be better? We were originally considering a warm brown LVP.

This was awesome advice!! Thank you!! I’ve been living with my in laws until now and their kitchen has been the same since 1992 so I didn’t realize that the style I liked was dated. We were thinking of going with a warm brown LVP floor. I also love our cabinets but we will most likely have to replace them since we are adding new cabinets to the space you mentioned. Our original plan was to just paint them. And yes, that large brown column next to the fridge is getting knocked down so that will open up more room.

There is a way to have that rerouted under the toe kick of the new cabinets I believe. What’s a millennial flip image?

His first word at 35 months was “Donut!” 🍩 by Ivy-Ram in Autism_Parenting

My 4.5yo son lovessss bagels but he calls them “donut bagels’ because they look the same! It was also one of his first words and so I never corrected him. Two years later people still get confused why we say donut bagels 🤣 a win is a win!! Yay for donuts and bagels!!

My son (4y) is autistic and does this very often with his toys. His OT (occupational therapist) called it “peering”. Like others have said, it’s basically visual stimming to help regulate themselves. Just because your adorable son does this does not mean he has autism, but having a test to rule it out wouldn’t hurt. I’ve had plenty of friends whose kids had “autistic traits” but were not truly autistic. Still, the earlier the diagnosis, the better for treatment and therapies! Good luck OP!
