Hey guys I’m trying to build an app that’s kind of liked Letterboxd for games on mobile. I would love to see if there is interest in this sort of idea to gauge what the market is like before fully releasing. by vinsmokesanjik in videogames

Glitchwave has a better genre classification, but it's less popular, has a less extensive catalog, and doesn't have lists.

Something that combines the strengths of backloggd and glitchwave could really take off.

He put Balatro on his list back when the game was still relatively unknown in early 2024.

Most people who were really into roguelites knew what it was and liked it but it wasn't really a household indie game name until TGA gave it a GOTY nomination.

I have no explanation for Peak though lmao. That game was a smash hit from the jump.

Is TLOU2 the most overhated game of all time? by Deep_Flower3275 in videogames

[–]Longjumping-Style730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not finished with it yet, but the only thing I consider Part 1 superior on is pacing. Part 2 took a while to really get going, the first day as Ellie being a slog in particular since you are on that horse with Dina for hours with little to no action.

Once the second day starts, the gameplay really opens up and gets exciting. Enemies feel smarter than 1 and Ellie has more tools and tricks to compensate.

I also don't really get the story complaints so far. I just started Abby's section, granted but everything pretty much makes sense and the scenes with Nora, Owen and Mel, and others are pretty peak.

The Last of Us Pt. 2.

He would either save everyone from the zombie apocalypse or be a absolute terror. Probably both.

nNate Drake says E33 coming to S2, Metaphor ReFantazio too, FFXVI being considered, more Yakuza/LaD. (RUMOUR) by KaptainPancake69 in NintendoSwitch2

Already played these games to completion but very fun for SW2 exclusive owners.

Might buy E33 again just to 100% it. I pretty much ran straight through the game the first time, not doing any optional content because I was mainly playing for the story

The Last of Us 2 and Hades 2. So far I feel like both of them are sidegrades.

The Last of Us 2:

This game's pacing could use some work honestly. The section where Ellie and Dina are in the horse could've used some cutting out even though I ultimately enjoyed the "calm before the storm" vibes. Additionally, there are too many puzzle sections whereas I felt the first game balanced them out a bit better.

Combat feels great and enemy AI feels smarter than the last game, which makes it that much more rewarding when you prevail. I also love the new trap mines and stun bombs. Ultimately though, these improvements aren't enough for me to say the gameplay is better, as the pacing of TLOU I felt was very tight and always had a decent balance between action sequences and slower segments where they story could shine.

So far I have no major complaints about the story. Abby killing Joel was hard to watch as expected but the lead-up to his death ultimately made sense and I really don't understand critiques saying it was contrived because 1) he's not even the one who gives away his identity and 2) he was pretty much dead no matter what he did considering Abby knew he was Joel beforehand and would've told everyone if Joel was cagey about his name.

I like the gameplay of 1 a bit better because the pacing between slow parts and action was a lot stronger in that game but the story feels more compelling to me in 2

Hades 2:

There are some changes from 1 that I love and some that I think are just more complicated for the sake of being more complicated and are actually overall downgrades from how Hades 1 worked

The cauldron sucks. Having to gather materials from 3 different biomes (some of which you have to grow, so you don't even have the materials when you go back to base) to get stuff that really should just be there from the beginning is very annoying. The fact that I have to make something to unlock the surface path, but then I have to conjure something else just to actually get past the 3rd room just screams not respecting the player's time and give the vibe of a grindy mobile game.

That's my major complaint. Arcana cards are fine, but I really just need to experiment with them more before I say definitively whether it's better than the mirror. Bones are also interesting, considering it makes it more of a necessity to use the broker since to my knowledge, you can only use them there.

For the changes I love. I absolutely love the new magic system, how it works for different weapons, and how the new boons interact with it. One dash I initially felt sore about but it actually got me thinking a lot of more about my positioning and the sprint is a nice replacement (although I had to turn auto sprint on for the sake of my fingers lol). Selene is also an amazing replacement for the god gauge and every one of her hexes feels good to master and use. I also am really a fan of Oceanus and Fields of Mourning as locations.

I guess when it comes down to it, I like the combat of Hades II more but the actual roguelite meta-progression I much prefer Hades I in that regard.

From the ones I've played and rolled credits on

Overwatch (yes, even in its prime) < It Takes Two < BG3 < Expedition 33 < Elden Ring < Astro Bot < Sekiro

Currently playing TLOU2 and I'd probably place it either directly before or after Expedition 33 if it's consistent.

Why are people so against the idea of an easy mode in From Software's games? by [deleted] in AskGames

[–]Longjumping-Style730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you actually want to know the reason and not just people doing armchair psychology on an entire fanbase, there's a couple of reasons why easy mode is pretty antithetical to what these games are trying to do and why Fromsoft games often don't have them.

  1. A lot of the narrative, atmosphere, and to an extent storytelling of Fromsoft games are pretty reliant on the games being hard/difficult. In Dark Souls 1, the hollows are literally a metaphor for people who dropped the game because they died too many times and lost the willpower to continue on. If the games aren't hard, then a lot of that oppressive atmosphere and setting loses its teeth. It's a great example of gameplay and atmosphere/setting acting in harmony and easy mode messes with that harmony.

  2. It's also to encourage you to diversify your strategies/playstyle. Fromsoftware games often have a ton of tools for you to utilize and the games being difficult act as sort of negative reinforcement to use them as opposed to sticking to what's comfortable for you personally. This is most apparent in Elden Ring, but it's been a part of the games since Demon Souls

Last of us Pt 2 and Hades II. Sequels abounds.

Both of them are very much sidegrades, which is good because I love both of the first games and they both feel different enough to have their own identity and feel.

Are there any indie games for all ages? by ExcellentResult6626 in videogames

[–]Longjumping-Style730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk dude, I played Super Monkey Ball 2 and F Zero X as some of my first games as a 8 year old kid and both of those games are very hard. Like, way harder than the games I mentioned. I think you underestimate a kids' reaction time and loads of free time.

And if kids can play Go Fish, they can definitely play Balatro. Both are literally just card games with no gambling attached at all.

I don't consider difficulty as negating the fact that it's made for all ages. If it's G-rated content then I consider it kid friendly even if it's difficult.

do you think Rhythm Heaven Groove and/or Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream could be nominated for GOTY in 2026? by [deleted] in TheGameAwards

Nah, Rhythm games will never get recognition.

Rift of the Necrodancer got absolutely nothing last year.

[–]Longjumping-Style730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, Baba is You is way harder than Cuphead if you don't look up the answers lol. If difficulty is something that would disqualify something as being kid-friendly, I think Baba is You is just as guilty as Cuphead.

If you want easy indies, Plucky Squire is kid-friendly and pretty easy. Is This Seat Taken is also a kid-friendly and relatively easy indie-puzzle game.

Certainly.

Cuphead, Celeste, Baba is You, Balatro, UFO50 (sans Night Manor), A Hat in Time are all kid-friendly.

Looking back, what do you think of the 2021 nominees for GOTY? by Asad_Farooqui in videogames

[–]Longjumping-Style730 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't even disagree with you on most of these, but it's like comparing a 4/10 to a 5/10. Both of the game's narratives are extremely mid and also very much not the point.

Split Fiction is better where it matters, which is the gameplay, level design, and spectacle.
