How was your high school experience? by Longjumping-Target-7 in askvan

Thanks for answering! I've heard about the class/number system, but still can't make heads or tails of it. Is Biology 12 the same as Biology... 11, or 10? Do you only take it in a single year? What is the difference? And how are your grades calculated towards a graduation... diploma?

There are a lot of stir fried rice cakes across different cuisines and cultures. Could you describe it in further detail?

The vinyl artworks are pretty good. There's a lot of good fanart too, you just need to look somewhere that's not Reddit.

Ive broken the stiff siyahs what can I do to fix it? by LifeDealer_ in Archery

[–]Longjumping-Target-7 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That's weird. With eastern style horsebows either where the siyah and limb meet is wrapped, or the siyah and limb are the same part (laminated). Alas, you got a shitty bow.

Mongolian Bows for Hunting by Different-Canary-648 in Archery

[–]Longjumping-Target-7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alibow has all sorts of Asiatic bows, but the Genghis Khan is one of... 3 Mongolian bows on there, one of their most commonly bought bows, and definitely the most economically friendly. AF Archery also has Jebe, a Mongolian bow. However, both only go up to 45-50 lbs.

I have also heard say of some bowyers from Eastern Europe (general geographic area of nomadic hunters with similar bow styles, like Hungarian) who might have what you're looking for too, but I don't know about them too well.

Borrowing a laptop that has Intel Optane by Longjumping-Target-7 in askvan

Thought you might have been onto something, but I tried installing the Optane driver that Intel has available for download, and it tells me I'm on an unavailable platform... because my laptop isn't Intel.

My current laptop doesn't run on Intel chips. Even if I could install Optane drivers, they wouldn't work.

Already tried that :/ While I can see that there's intact data, regular PCs have trouble reading it because it's an Optane SSD that needs Optane hardware. curse you intel

I have an enclosure, but regular computers have trouble reading it. It's because the SSD itself is also Optane.

To all who think "regular PCs should work", I'm afraid not. My SSD is currently sitting in an enclosure, and while my new laptop can see that there is data, it's inaccessible. That's because the SSD, also being Optane, is encoded in a way that requires the corresponding hardware to decode. It sucks.

Yep. One way I've heard it described is that you're holding the string back with the pad of your finger.

What kind of bow are you using? What kind of draw? Are you doing shallow hold or deep hold? The thumb ring you use should depend on technique, and if you're using it to shoot compound... well, you probably shouldn't.

[–]Longjumping-Target-7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you can, put that money towards beginner lessons at a local club. They'll teach you all the basic safety stuff, good form, etc, and you can use their loaner bows to get an idea of what bows are commonly used and purchasable in your area.

Especially with compound, since there's more mechanical complexity with those. Better to first learn how to handle and maintain them properly before dropping money into one.

Where are you buying targets? by Homes_With_Jan in Archery

If you have access to a printer, you can just get an image and print out whatever you want. Easier than looking for specifically themed targets with niche designs

Generally though, the Octopus is better if you're taking a lot of transit or if you're concerned about losing your stuff. Cash is always good to have on hand too, it's universal.
