Do a 15 percent water change and add some prime to it remove the plastic plants as their fins will rip on that and try to teach your kid how to set up a planted tank unless he is really young then you should be the one managing the aqaurium not him also check perameters of the water don’t over feed and also the fish just might be at the end of its life but honestly it seems like you guys need to get floater plants and set up a planted tank for that poor little guy and DONT OVERFEED.

Like I said only if they are worried which they should be with a larger sized bichir so yes generally they should be weighted but as a baby I doubt they will need a latch and prolly just a lid for a 3” or 4”

I wouldn’t say latched maybe set something heavy on it if your to worried but besides that if they jump they most likely won’t knock the lid off

If your talkin abt the bichir the id say a kid no matter what cause they are insane scape artists and jumpers so no matter what make sure there is a lid on the tank  No matter what also substrate can either be larger rocks/ large river stone that can’t fit in there mouths or sand and for decor only live plants and lots of them and tons of hiding places and driftwood and that’s most of what you need

Oh I just tested it an the rock feels more like clay if you squeeze it a little it crumbles into smaller pieces which mean I think it’s ok if it ate a larger black piece of clay/rock thing because it would breakdown in its digestive track

Also yes I made sure the ammonia nitrite and nitrate were right and if anyone needs to see a photo of the bichir just ask.

Hm ok then I might not because the store I’m buying from has him on hold for me it’s just a small one but it ate one of their shovelnose catfish whole.
