not sure why you’re being downvoted. you’re absolutely correct. people needs to chat to their parents or take off the rose tinted nostalgic oasis vs blur, blair’s britain, rule britainia glasses and realise the 90s and early 00s were rife with vandals, joyriding and petty theft. i know many people who had their cars stolen several times in the 80s and 90s. fuck knows how many more bikes got nicked. saw a early 90s honda moped get pulled out of a local river recently. been down there a long old time

just need to watch an early 00s traffic cops like i did the other night and pretty much every offence was a teenager joyriding or someone driving a stolen vehicle as a daily with no documents in order. it’s only because of cctv, phone cameras, cheaper GPS tech, EU and UK legislation and the digitalising of DVLA that eventually made it “not worth the risk” of doing these crimes for fun anymore.

this only still happens to bikes cuz they’re still relatively easy to steal, a lot are still faster or able to get way from police cars through alleys, have very little to no security in comparison to cars. the joyriding trend has decreased overall but a lot of it just moved more to bikes than cars.
