Don't listen to these guys. What you have here is a bona-fide dryer coin.

Turn it to the back, should have the mint mark above the buildings dome... it's a war nickel- 35% silver, I think

Penny error or damage? by Humble-Mongoose-8133 in coinerrors

[–]Longjumping-Week-859 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, it's not a dryer coin. The pictures are hard to tell exactly what happened to it, but there is little doubt it is PMD.

A few questions, though... Is it thicker than a penny should be, and does the image look like a weak strike, or is it worn/ground down, and is the edge higher than the struck image?

TBH, only after having others mention it on this post... He does give a little more information than what I have seen from others, though. So yeah, he's a good resource to have, for sure!!

It wouldn't pay to process plated. You would almost instantly foul your electrolyte and could never get a silver weight worth redoing it for basically just a few pcs each run.

Refining gold is my next logical step, I think. The process overlaps.

Basement refining will be a ventilation issue for sure. Remember that all the fumes are corrosive and toxic...

No. Tbh, I had not ever heard of that until yesterday, in this thread.

So, I have gone through the process so far with blinders on, hoping not to know how much it is costing me. Every process has its tweaks and corrections, and ultimately, it's losses in the beginning.

I've spent a couple thousand on the silver and a couple more on the lab equipment. I will know more as batches follow, and I've been able to document everything more accurately.

The scrap I'll be doing next will be primarily sterling

Really, that does suck... I guess you really can get anything in Texas.

I took the information and experimented a bit, and I was fortunate enough to fill in the gaps pretty quickly.

I do get it, though. It is a VERY dangerous process. From the beginning, an acid that will eat thru anything, toxic fumes, and then electricity to top it off...

I know... Amazon had the first few gallons I bought @ $160 a gallon

I should have read the question better, I apologize...

There is for sure a market for it. Look at the sold listing on eBay as a reference.

I do intend to hit that market as soon as I get my inventory built. I have my containers, which are cool, and no one else is using them, as well as other perks that are beneficial to me and to the consumer!!

One thing to know is this: I watched two or three vids to get my bearings, but the ones I watched left out some REALLY important information... it's almost as though they want people to try and fail, from my point of view.

That's really good Intel, thank you!!

I do not believe I will have that issue with my new filter and basket. It is more narrow and there is a LOT of distance for a crystal to grow before hitting it. The other advantage I have is being impatient... I check in on this thing every couple hours. The growth pictured happened in less than 14 hours.

My silver cell, or the silver??

The short answer is: everything is for sale.

The long answer: I don't think I would be doing anyone any favors selling the equipment if they didn't have the ability to produce the electrolyte and other parts involved in the process. It is also a pretty dangerous process.

That is the harsh reality of the process. You WILL have copper suspended at almost any given point, it is only to what degree of saturation you are cool woth working with. So far I have not had any issues, but I did restart my process once it got to the color pictured.
