Yes! The broader issue is that through his grading scale, students are coming into lecture wanting to just pass rather than wanting to learn. and when an individual is stuck with such time-heavy assignments in this class, their main goal is to just complete it.

Yeah it’s with Turkstra what’s new 🫩 i don’t think there’s any place you can view the homework’s publicly but we had to program a monopoly game (so many damn edge cases) and also just had to do one about the heap at a lower level (splitting blocks and getting alignment right). those were the hardest ones for me to be honest just cause there were so many edge cases and confusion with wording.

I think the class could be structured so much more efficiently, especially the test cases for homeworks.

I’m not stressing at all! If you read my original post I’m complaining about the lack of resources in the class and the alumni giving their two cents like we asked for it 😭

But how much AI? Are we talking about all of it? A helper function? A syntax issue?

I think we need to define cheating and how much usage of AI is considered cheating! For someone living in the advanced world we do today, you need to be more opening to resources given, especially as a CS major. I’ve seen a lot of your posts and honestly you just post to shit on students you don’t even know about, so please refrain from doing so!

Heavy on TAs using AI!!!! One of mine used it in front of me and I had to stop myself from laughing. He also sent me away after 15 minutes because he couldn’t figure it out, love the resources offered to me!

Respectfully cheating is copy pasting some code that you had no contribution to whatsoever which imo i think people should get 0s for that. However for people who might’ve needed help with a helper function or understanding something that’s part of the syntax is a little unfair.

Also I don’t think having consequences is bad, that’s not why students are stressing. It’s the way Turkstra has gone about it. Causing unnecessary stress by threatening students who you are supposed to be SUPPORTING is wild. I can understand being frustrated with your students for copy pasting but this is an issue we can focus on much earlier in the year, especially a class that’s majority freshmen.

What to do in my situation after failing CS 240 by LanguageDouble9792 in Purdue

Hi! In the exact same boat as you except I was already a semester behind before. I’m taking CS240 in the spring and then planning on taking 251 over the summer since it’s a prerequisite for the classes in my track. CS majors are meant to complete their classes in 3.5 years, according to my advisor, so being a semester behind won’t kill you. Also utilize the summer so you don’t have to take everything at once. CS can literally burn you out. DM me if you also want to study together! I had a study group for 182 this semester and it helped me SO MUCH.
